Old Models....
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 16, 2004 8:37 AM
Hello all,

Recently found my old models that Mom had stuck down in the cellar many years ago when I left home. What to do with them? I'm not into them any more and they in various states of repair as mom put them all in boxes. They are mostly aircraft models from the late 70s to early 80's.

Do they have any value as spare parts or should I just trash them? I do have many of the boxes for them as well and most never had decals added to them.

Thanks,
Jeremy

They have some value to someone. Even if not for the building, there are those that like to collect older kits as collectors items. Some fo those kits are still pretty good builds and maybe it will respark your interest.

If you still think you want to trash them, rather than that, turn them over to a social center, youth program, take them to the local nursing home, put them in a box and give them to the local IPMS chapter, someeone will like building them.

Like renarts said, don't trash them. Even if you don't want to work on them someone will. I also recommend taking them to a local IPMS chapter. They will definitely put them to good use.

Do not trash them. Try to repair a few, and display them with pride, or box them up for the future. I still have a few of my early attempts, and I'm glad I have!

I agree, renarts hit it right on! a youth center, a local VA hospital or VFW chapter (people who would appreciate them) .. a senior citizens home.. many a modeller from the old days might enjoy trying to repair them, or even just holding them.. remembering when they used to build...

In addition to all of the above good suggestions, you might consider donating them to a local Boy Scout organization. During Winter Months especially, craft related projects are popular & you might encourage some new modelers into the Hobby.

Airground I have not been around for awhile, been working out of town. I just saw this
(8 nov). I love refurbishing old kits. If you still have some around let me know here and
I'll give you my E-address and we can make a deal. New kits are getting pricey but the wife doesn't mind my picking up old kits.

Some communities have 4-H chapters that build models too. See if they might be interested.
