Diamond in the rough??
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 12:40 AM
There have been several threads dedicated to modelling mistakes. The question I would like to pose here is this:
Is there a modelling mishap that you had that actually turned out to be that next "tip of the month" or an unexpected scratch-build that turned out to be a show-stopper? How did you overcome those mistakes and become a better modeller because of it? Being able to work through our mistakes and turn them into masterpieces is one of the most important skills a modeller can cultivate so lets help each other out here.

The only big mistake that actually came out fairly good was when I first tried my hand at airbrushing. I was working on a Lightening, attempting to paint it a nice "Lightening Bolt Blue." As with most modelers on their first attempt at airbrushing, I mixed the paint WAY too thin. After about 5 coats, though, it began to take on a battle-damaged, wheathered look that turned out pretty cool. Other than that, most of my mistakes end up in file 13.

A wise man once said, "Learn from the mistakes of others. You don't have enough time in your life to make them all."
