Bench Warmer!!

Kinda got the same problem at the moment quiet a few kits on the bench screaming for attention and little to no time to actually do the work. Weather also been playing havoc here so that I couldn't even open a window.

Things should ease after this weekend though.

Know how ya feel... I layed off the modelling a few days this week when I was sick... I plan on getting back at the bench tomorrow if all goes well... it's been kind of nice for me (sinc ei thasnt been as long as you had away from the bench I am sure)

It helped me get my focus back on having fun modelling and not how good it was or trying to pump them out for group builds etc...

You better be careful, buddy. Sitting at the bench becomes habit forming and that won't pay the bills Anyway, glad you got to take a break. I know it's been long hours for people in your profession and part of the world since Ivan came through the door. Good to see you back again.

Chris, glad to hear you're back on the bench. The Ivan clean up sure took it's toll on a lot of folks. Looking forward to seeing more pics!

Just a quick question, Salty-

Why are you sitting on your bench? Doesn't it crowd your work? I'd think a stool or such would be more comfortable.

heeeeeeeeeey, thats a great idea stickjockey!!! that would make more room on the bench wouldn't it?LOL heck, i still don't know why we call it a workcbench when there is no actual "work" goin' on, and a bench is considered as something one "sits" on where i'm from, not pile hundreds of dollars worth of styrene and glue on.LOL later.

I have been hearing the call from my bench for a while now after a long break. Too many things have gotten in the way. Work, a move, a new computer, work... Its been a couple of months since I last sat down and really worked on a model. That must be why I haven't been feeling right as of late. To make things worse I think my Iwata airbrush as ran off due to lack of use. :( I am hoping its just in of the boxes we haven't unpacked yet. Prying...please be in the next box I look through...please......

Hey rrmmodler, When I got home from work Tues. Your airbrush was at my front door hungry and unshaven, I cleaned him up and put him right to work, The Iwata sure knows how to paint.

Hey Saltydog, I want to spray fine detail, what needle should I get or what Iwata brush should I get, I think I just want to get another brush, I have the revolution. Did not mean to turn this thread into a airbrush question.

thats funny, i have the eclipse hp-cs(.35mm needle/nozzle combo), which will cover all of your needs friend, but i'm ordering the economical hp-cr (.5mm n/n combo) for spraying the future coats and acrylics, and possibly some alclad from time to time. the hp-cs is the finest airbrush i've ever used. nothing atomizes paint finer than the eclipse IMO. its worth every dime. later.

chris i am in the process of working on my bench. doing some stools right now so that i can model in comfort. got to sand it yet and get a good top. oh and i havent touched my kits in a few days.

Well THAD it had to my airbrush's twin because I found him and got him all looking nice and I will be putting him to work this weekend. It was a great reuion....lol.....The Iwata HP-CS is a great brush and worth every penny and I have been able to get pretty thin lines with it pretty easily using acrylics. I am also thinking of getting the CR for the same reasons as Chris.

Rob, you probably allready know this, but just in case, the key to really thin lines with an airbrush is as follows:
1. really thin paint

2. very low airpressure (with my hp-cs, i'm below 10 psi as my gauge is not that accurate below the 10psi tick mark, but i just kinda "feel" it when i get it right)

3. especially with acrylics, not very much paint in your cup, if you load your brush with thinned paint, and with the length of time it takes to do detail work, the pigment in the paint will begin to settle to the bottom, and the thinner will begin to evaporate a little.

4. and, i'm in very close to the surface of the subject......about a 1/2 to a 1/4 of an inch, sometimes even closer.

5. and the most important one once you find the right "concoction" of paint and thinner, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!! lol later.

Well Chris, haven't talked at you in awhile but that is understandable with all that has happened in your part of the country lately. Now that your butt is dry and warm you can start kicking out some projects for us to enjoy. Oh! don't know if I mentioned it lately but the Empress bought me an IWATA and a ETCHMATE. What a woman. thanks mike!! and, the iwata fraternity grows!!LOL i take a beating over in the airbrush forum because i'm about the only one that recommends iwata over there. badger products seem to rule the roost, but people just don't know what they're missing!!LOL
things are beginning to settle back to normal here, and my wife and i are excited about moving to a new location soon. but anyway, hopefully i'll have something to post as far as builds go very soon. thanks for the kind words. later.
