I'm currentry doing a research about the differents materials we (modelers) might "run" into when practicing our favorite hobby. So I'd like to ask some questions about that stuff...so feel free to answers my questions or not...or give me any kind of info on the subject...thanks.
1- What kind(s) of plastic is used to manufacture plastics models. I'm not talkin about limited run models but the ones we could easily find anywhere like Tamiya, Dragon, Academy models kits......Is it polystyrene or another kind of plastic? And what about those limited-run kits. Are they manufatured with the same kin of plastic?
2- What kind(s) of plastic is used to manufature the tracks of these models kits (not the idividual-link tracks....but the rubber one)?
3- Resin ? What the h...... is that? What it's look like? Does it have another name? How resin models are manufactured? What kind of glue do you use with these resin models kit?
4- Glues..... I read the "Glue Basics" article in the september issue of FSM magazine. Do I need to know anything else?
5- Photo-etched part....what is that? What material is used to manufacture these thing. Is it brass, aluminum, steel....? What do you use to glue them together or to a plastic kit?
6- Are there any others materials we might "run" into? (Diorama, woods, decals,
aftermarket parts......)
This research is only for my personnal uses. I'm trying to put together some sort of modeling compendium about........well everything a modeler should know. I think it will be some sort of "lifetime" project but I'm a patient guy so....I'll be happy to share the results.....but it will take a little while.
If you think I forgot something important, just remind me. For now, I'm focusing about the materials we work with. I'll cover (later) the glues, the paints, the diffrents techniques, the scales and kind of models (topic)....and many other thing that seem important to know.
