Plans for a hobby workbench

I just have an old drafting table.
Went to Crate and Barrel for some shelf with little drawers
to put paints, tool, sand paper and what not in.
Made my own spray booth
And now looking for a vice to mount on the side.
Whole cost of the table $60
Just because you have some elaberate table, doesn't mean it will cause you to make better models.

The July 2001 FSM has a good article on building a "hideaway" work bench.

Like the others have said, personal prefferance plays a large part.

You have to consider where you will be in 6-12 months.
No point building a massive state of the art bench, then moving into a 1 bedroom squat!!

Mine used to be a massive thing, but then I got tired of all the space, and made it the size of a normal desk, and attached a spray booth to one side.

Now, no matter where I live, I can build models in my self contained bench.

You could always use my preferred configuration: find a suitable large flat space and scatter tools willy-nilly all over the place.

I don't think you'll find any plans really. It's something you should figure out on your own. I have found over the years good places to put my desk and arrange my tools and paints, and it's something that differs from person to person, simply due to the fact that most modelers don't have a dedicated modeling room but make do with whatever is available, and work from that.

While most of us would like to have a well designed desc, I guess most of use make to with stuff that we have.

I found that my workarea has changed layout quiet a few times over time as I find better and more comfortable way of arranging and storing stuff.

Don't know about plans, but FSM a couple of months ago ran a good article on designing the ideal hobby room. I thought it was quite good - it has to beat my workbench in the unfinished basement.
