Van Helsing was based in our world but certainly out of the ordinary. It would be cool if there were some figures from the movie.

MM, that looks like an interesting project!

I did see "Reign of Fire" on DVD a couple of months ago, so now I know exactly what you're talking about. The modified M41 (I think!) was pretty cool.

Sorry, don't have any kits to show off at the moment, but here is an upcoming project:

This is an 1/6 Alpha kit of Nadeshiko from Intron Depot, she will be put into a medieval drainage/dungeon type tunnel complete with flickering torches, water, rat, etc.

ProBuilder.

Yeah, something like that.

So you mean Kitbashing into the realm of what-if?? Right? Did that onece with a R/C tank from Radio Shack. Changed the turret/ altered the gun/ messed with the hull and bogie wheels and painted it in the what if colors of the Free Mars Militia camoflauge colors of 3 tones of Red. Looked really cool and was lots of fun to play with.

Actually it is and I got hooked on that type of model building a few years ago, granted I do it mostly with large scale resin figure kits.

Yeah, more along those lines.

Those settings are a bit extreme though, I am thinking more along the lines of "Reign of Fire" or similar.
In case you haven'r seen "Reign of Fire" it plays about 25yrs in the future and the world has been taken over by Dragons after one was uncovered during construction work in London.
Humans barely manage to survive as they dragons are out to destroy the human species.
In one scene a few US Mercs(Dragon Slayers) arrive at an old destroyed castle that holds some survivors with a tank, helicopter, etc in order to kill the original Dragon.

I don't usually place models outside of their 'normal' context. Most of my builds are OOTB, buit consistent with time/area most common to have found these vehicles.

More talking about taking lets say a WW II tank and putting it into a 21st Century Dark Future/Japanese medieval setting or similar.

In short the type of setting where your imagination is more important than your research of the accuracy of your build.

I rarely do OOTB if that's what you mean.. Because I normally do quite a bit of research, my kits often tend to look quite different from what they would have been had I followed the intructions to the letter. Now as to take a particular kit and 'move it' to a different, fictitious era, theatre or use, I'd say no in most counts, again because I tend to rely a lot of info gathered and I do like to have some sound basis to what I'm modeling.

However, occasionaly, I'll go 'overboard'. This mostly applies to stuff seen in movies or better yet, in graphic novels/comic strips.

Most of the guys here seem to specialise in a certain genre and occasionally dabble in others.

How many of you have broken the mold and used your skills to do something apart from the norm??

Example:
Been watching TV a few days ago and all the Indy Jones movies were on, which made methink that it would be cool to do a 1/35 Dio ala Indiana Jones style using WW II Troops and Equipment.

Or take a Bike/Car kit and turn it into a Dark Future model aka Mad Max, etc rather than buying a kit from said movie.

Anybody here ever does things like that? Personally, I like to take a kit and build/display it out of it's normal environs or even to mod it to fit a certain theme.

One of the builds I will soon start is such a subject taking a 1/6 Intron Depot Figure and displaying it in a Dark-SF/Fantasy Dungeon(scratch-build of course).

Another upcoming build will be a Honda CBR1100XX with Vietnam style era 3-colour camo scheme and tiger sharkmouth, plus other aircraft orientated markings(mods of the kit supplied decals).

I know that some of the builds/designs of such very popular with people and thus we got things like S.F.3.D., etc.

Lets here your opinions and views.
