Moving advice....
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 10:07 PM
So, I'm being deployed next month, and I need to move out of my apartment. They will probably be in storage for a year, more or leess.

What is the best way to pack models for storage?
Peanuts? Bubble wrap? Excelsior?

One model to a box or several?

Any help is appreciated.

FSM had a feature on packing models for a move several years ago. . .like 93-94?? I know I followed it and at my destination I had only one mishap out of over 15 models., most were F1 cars but a few tanks and aircraft too.
It involves buying lots of TP and wrapping the kits like mummies and bubble wrap. Mine were not in storage very long and the move was from overseas.
I would be more concerned about the storage facility and the heat inside. . .

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Depend really a lot on the type of models to be moved, etc.

Most are 1/48 and 1/72 aircraft. A couple of armor pieces also.

I moved around 350 cars 3 years ago in all scales (1/12th to 1/43rd) with no major breakages by wrapping each in tissue and placing some in individual boxes (1/43rd) or placing in larger boxes (1/24th and 1/12th) with padded top and bottom, single layer per box of course. F1 wings was the hardest but I packed some tissue or wrap under them to help support them - perhaps this is the way for aircraft as well? Some are still in boxes are have suffered no ill effects over that time.
