Hobby Lobbby

Just ran all over the closest big town next to me and found out the Rider's Hobby shop's in my area are stretching themselves way to thin. The plasitc kit model section is getting smaller and smaller and the supplies and tools section is almost nonexistant.
Hobby Lobby in my area seems to have a pretty good kit selection, from all major manufacturers, even a few lesser knowns, and all the basic tools that you could want. Prices are not bad either, comparable to most other chains.
I would much rather shop locally, not a chain, but when all you need is one jar of paint, and the local place doesn't have it.......well I need instant gratification most of the time.

Let me know what you people think out there.

*Sigh*
I was a customer at the original Rider's in Flint for many, many years. As a matter of fact I owe my entrance into the hobby to Rider's Hobbys. I wandered into the store at the age of 7 after seeing those wonderful models displayed in the window and I was hooked. I'll aways remember how they answered all my questions and the way they treated me even though I was just seven and by myself. The staff seemed like they were a family and they always had time for customers. A good 1/2 of the store was plastic models with a nice mix of trains, games, and R/C taking up the rest. Last year I went back after being out of state for a decade and was shocked and deeply saddened by my visit. The inventory was way too diverse to appeal to any serious hobbiest save for maybe the R/C crowd. Gone was the warm friendly staff and the store had moved into a "big box" type building. I bought a couple items and was checked out by a youngster who had no knowledge or desire to be there. On that day had I been that same 7 year old who had wandered in off the street nearly 30 years earlier, I believe the hobby would have died for me right then and there.
Yeah, Hobby Lobby looks pretty good after that little visit

The Rider's store in this area ( Canton ) has gone the same way. Almost exclusively RC these days with heavy emphasis on racing cars. Plastic kits down to mostly old stock that hasn't sold. Fortunately, there is Old Guard in Garden City, which is my favorite Oasis.

Boy O Boy!!! i owe 90% of my 25 kit stash to the 1/2 off Plastic Models sale put on by Hobby Lobby!! so yes, i would gladly shop there. i have respect for Hobby Lobby on a spiritual level as well, you won't find one open on Sunday's. the owner of the chain is a Christian and don't want to be responsible for holding anyone up from attending church. this guy certainly has his priorities in place. later.

Same here, due to the 40-50% off sales, I think I actually do own all the armor they currently stock.
I go to Hobby Lobby all the time, I can find almost anything there I need, and it is closer to where I work than any other store that sells modeling related items.

You should visit their website. I signed up for the weekly coupon there and that should give me a little heads up on the next 50% sale. One of the things I like about their homepage are the quotes you'll find there. Truly awesome and inspiring to know that somebody found room for God in their business plan.

When you go to Hobby Lobby don't just visit the modeling section, take a walk up and down every aisle in the store, carry a basket with you because you will find tons of useful stuff for building, I come up with a lot of ideas just from wandering around the other areas of the store.
