hmmm, Ive built pretty much 4 brands, Tamiya, italeri, dragon, and AFV club, they are all good. But I did buy my cousin a minicraft blackhawck, it was not a very good kit, in detail and everything else. The next I would say is, italeri. You just never know what you'll get with them. Some stuff is really good, while other stuff is not. But, ya, I still do like italeri very much.

P.S. I wouldnt have posted, but you told me I had toWink [;)]

I guess you guys have never built a Lindberg, Pioneer 2, or Starfix kit. LOL

Comet solid balsa kits - 1/72, 1 block and 2 sheets balsa + instructions - add razor blade and sand paper and you had "Home Amputation in One Easy Lesson".

Berkely ducted fan kits - Neat looking kits and instructions, unfortunatly you needed a degree in engineering to get them together - had 2, a T-33 and an F4D. .049 powered

Starfix - Wife bought 3 (Mustang, Spitfire and Messerschmidt) for 10 cents each (unopened) at a yard sale. Opened and figured out why - went directly into file 13.

If you want strictly plastics:

Starfix - note above

Lindbergh - 95% were dogs in outline and fit

Aurora - Even clunkier than Matchbox - raised areas to indicate where decals went - molded in weird colors (bright yellow Zero, metallic red Bf109, black Fw190, metallic green Albatross)

Having said all that, I've built my fair share of Linbergh and Aurora kits.

Lindberg, AMT, Airfix (I only have experience with one Airfix kit, and it will be the last)

I don't build many kits any more, but when I do I usually spend a little more for the quality. Sometimes it is nice to take a break from scratching everything, but with some of these manufacturers it is more work.

My votes go to Lindberg, Zhengdefu (probably the worst raffle win I have ever seen) and AMT/Ertl.

I have to go along with AMT/ERTL which has been mentioned several times already, although they don't look bad once finished.

Looks like there's a whole bunch of contenders for the worst of the worst........and I'd have to agree with most all of those - although there's a number of makers I've not had the (dis)pleasure of coming across........my list is:
1. AMT/ERTL
2. Special Hobby (great subjects and awful molds)
3. Sword

Cheers, LeeTree

1. Skif
2. Skif
3. Skif

In that order.

Still, Skif kits can turn into nice models, with effort.
Lots of effort.

From my limited experience I'd go with
1)Zhengdefu - dad found me a pair of 1/48 motorized tanks, more toys than models
2)Hobbycraft - oh, the headaches from trying to fit my A-10 together, that's what I get for going cheap
3) ???

That's it, really. Most of my kits are Tamiya or Academy/MRC with a couple of Italeri and Dragon thrown in there. No real complaints with them, though I've yet to come across the perfect kit.

I think that this is a pretty bad idea, as it is inconsistent. There are many bad companies with good kits, and vice versa. Also, some of the best companies around have had some pretty bad kits at times.
Still, to go with the flow, I'll have to say Zhangdefu, Modelcraft, Omega-K.

I don't think its fair to put Lindberg in the Bad Category. They were what the were, a compnay that made low cost Kits. Yes they had lots of flaws but they never pretended to be anything they were not. In 1972 I could get on my bike and go to my LHS and buy a Lindberg 1/72 scale airplane kit for about $2.00?, throw in some Testors paint maybe about .25 a jar back then and I was off to the races for 3.00 - 3.50 I built alot of these in total ignorance of their quality, it got me into this hobby. I see High quality kits being released now at $175.00, what kid is going to have the $ for these. In the long run the Hobby needs a range of low cost kits for beggeners and High Quality for advanced builders to attract people. I have a 1/72 Lindberg Fw-190 I found at a garage sale that I will never put together, I reminds me of 1972.

I can think of more than three that I avoid but I guess the absolute worst would be:
1. Starfix
2. Mach2
3. Lindberg tied with Zhengdefu

There isn't a model company in the world that hasn't produced a dog. I have built some ill fitting Tamiya kits. Hesagwa, Fujimi. DML are mostly great kits but have had their share of problems. I have also built some great AMT Revell-Monogram kits. Some models take a lilttle more effort, thats what seperates the beginners from the experenced. Just my .02 worth.
