Anyone do any flying with modeling supplies?

I’ll be going to Ft Lauderdale, Florida next week (yeah, I’ll probably go to Model Expo –again) and I’d like to take some materials but I do not want to worry about airport security issues. I thought of just a few subassemblies (cockpit, engine pieces) and maybe some acrylic paints and some liquid cement. No metal pieces (files, clamps).

Or maybe just sand paper and the kit pieces. Metal lids on jars, you know. I could get glue down there but I don’t want to buy a lot and leave it down there

Shouldn't be a problem with the plastic parts. Better leave the X-Acto home though Smile [:)].

I've travelled with kits, glues, and paints, with no problems. I've even brought the exacto and other tools, but they were not carryon luggage.

I've flown internationally many times with kits and X-actos in the check-in luggage, never had a problem.

You can carry a lot on check-in luggage, but I would stay away from carrying anything other than kit parts and sandpaper with you. I think even paint and glue would make the agents search more thouroughly. I just finished writing a paper and a presentation over aviation security for my aviation safety class, so I have done some research. Check out TSA's website www.tsa.gov , they have a lot of guidelines. Hope this helps.

Thank, guys. To be on the safe side, I'll keep it to sanding papers and plastic parts and maybe some brushes. Glue and paint I'll get in Florida.

jetlag, thanks for the TSA link.
