Not sitting back anymore
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 21, 2005 11:03 PM
For most of you prolly don't know, sooo many new people, I have been away a while. I took a bad shot to my confidence in a burn here, and was giving up modeling. Well a few of you that have been close to me, a big thanks for pulling me back from the big fall with a little "tough love". Much apprecaited. I have had a few good offers on my 98% completed Malta Spitfire thats blown me away.
Now I have 2 kits on the bench and I am loving my hobby now, and I aint gonna go nowhere anymore.
So I am back now, to 'ell with massaging egos when all you do is get burnt.

You don't have to like me, but you can try to be civil,
Jeff

First and foremost, don't ever let getting "burned" (not really sure what that means!) turn you off of a hobby that you love! I'm glad you came to that realization and came back. Keep on building and having fun. Don't waste time with the negative stuff.

Second, welcome back. I guess since I see you around other sites frequently, I didn't realize you were gone!

Hi Jeff,
Glad you are over your grief and came back. I've experienced what you went through as well since I'm pretty strait forward with my comments on the internet. It seems there is always some alter ego out there that will go out of their way to be downright mean in order to show that you are in the wrong. We just need to roll with those punches if we are to play on the net.

Cheers,
Scott

Jeff , good to hear your back. Hey I've into it before and that is okay. We just roll with the punches and move ahead. Life is too short and so is our time to be modeling. Got any latest pics of your Spit?

Yeah, about those planes, I've decided I'm going to move back into armor for a little. After my mig-29 p-47d and fw-190 that is.Wink [;)]

I've just ventured into armor, and I like it pretty well, tanks are neat. Planes however, are my true love and I can never abandon them. I'm working on both air and ground at the same time.

One of the hardest things for all of us to remember, is that we do this stuff for fun. We build models to relax, to get away from reality for awhile. What you build doesn't matter, it could be armor, it could be dollhouses or model railroading. It also doesn't matter how well you build, as long as you have fun doing it. You can paint a T-34 purple if you want to, and no one has the right to say anything. It's your model, your paint, your time and effort. Bravo Zulu for doing it, you could be laying on the couch eating Bon-Bons and watching Oprah instead.

I don't feel that anyone has the right to bash someone else's models, here, or anywhere. It's just not conducive to the hobby, or the feelings of the person who built the model. I've experienced it at shows, where folks will make comments about a model, and the poor guy that built it is within earshot. I guess it makes some people feel superior by criticizing someone else's work, but the ones who generally do aren't that great at building themselves. It's a sad state of affairs when the only thing that matters to someone is criticizing someone else's models...pathetic really.

So don't let it get to you, and just remember, for every person who criticizes, there's dozens more, like the folks that posted above, who CARE, and who haven't lost sight of the fact that this is a hobby that we do for enjoyment.

As for me, I'm going home to paint a T-34 purple...because I can... :-)

Just remember... Illegitmus Non Carborundum

Oh, I don't know....I think a purple T-34 would look...ahhh never mind.

Build what you like, how you like, and don't pay attention to anyone else.

Yeah the Spit is done.... I do have a pic on the card but no Batteries. I started my own business up (which with complete respect to this forum and its moderaters I will not go into), and mass amounts of cash has gone into it, including my camera money so I will have to wait for it to level out before I can spend elsewhere on stuff that is not as important.
Also have an AM p-51 with both Verlinden resin sets underway that has a possible purchaser too. Lots of modeling work and self employeed work ahead of me. Will get those pics in a while out to you.
