A bad day turned good
Posted by KINGTHAD on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 8:26 AM
I had one of those mondays at work Black Eye [B)] so the day was not going well. When I got home I vented to my wife and she sent me out to the shop to cool off. While I was working on one of my builds I heard a sound I have not heard in a long time. I steped out the shop door and saw a beautiful site, There it was a B-17 at about 1500 ft flying right over my house, I could not believe what I just saw. I went back to work at the bench and 15 min later I heard another sound, I rushed out the door to see the B-17 again but no it was a B-24. It rolled by and went out of site. I realized I was still looking up in the sky after about 10 min with a big grin on my face.Cool [8D] Thank God for mondays

Sounds like my morning last Thursday:

I was looking forward to sleeping in after a week of early rising and at about 7 in the morning I was awoken by the distinctive sound of multiple helicopters.

I was angry until I looked out the window and saw the three ship of two Mil 8 Hips being led by a Mil 24 Hind at about 500 feet above my block of flats.

Awesome guys!

Speaking of strange noises, Elmendorf AFB here just finished a few days of exercises, so I can finally sleep without simulated explosions and jet takeoffs in the middle of the night! Not that I mind that much anyway!

The coolest thing that happend to me was when me and my cousin were out on a boat in my grandmas pond and a blackhawk flew over us, we waved said it was cool and got back to fishing. about 3 minutes later, I looked and saw the blackhawk swoopover the trees it must have been about 150 ft from us, i could see the gunners face. They almost blew are boat over too! that was cool, i'll never forget that.

Thad, you saw the Collingsworth Foundation AC. They were in Dallas until Wednesday and then they were headed to OKC.

I get frustrated working at the airstation, but every time I see a Phrog, Huey, Cobra, 53 ( frustration in a can) or Osprey take to the air it makes the day go by easier. I haven't spotted a B-17 or B-24 fly in years, so I am awefully jealous.

I once saw a couple of F-15s mock dogfighting near Semour Johnson AFB near Goldsboro NC. Pretty cool.

When I was still living in California, one January 1, as was my custom, I went to the Rose Parade in Pasadena, then afterwards went to an old friend's house several miles away. While I was there, the B-2 Stealth Bomber flew right over his house (escorted by an F-117) at about 1000 feet on its way to a flyover at the Rose Bowl football game. That was utterly fantastic! And you couldn't hear it coming until it was right overhead! I'll never forget that.

I saw that same thing, only I saw it fly over the parade route. Twice! Once in 1996 and the other time in 2000. I went to a friend's house who lives 1/2 mile north of the prarade route, spent the night, and then when the B-2 was supposed to fly over, we were still 1 block north of the parade route. The sight sent chills up and down my spine! I'll never forget it. I even turned to my wife afterwards and said, "I'm getting a model of that plane and you are NOT saying no!" The rest of the parade was awesome as well, but I sure loved seeing that plane.
