DIsplaying your model collection
Posted by chazrull on Monday, May 9, 2005 2:30 PM
Over the years I've displayed my models on plywood shelves in my bedroom (when I was a kid) glass shelves in my living room (when I was single) and now shelves in the garage (married) which makes for a lot of dusting.
Just wondering, how and where does the average modeling display his creations?

Mine are on a set of shelves in a spare bedroom that's been converted into a den/study.

I display my models on shelves in a spare room. It makes for a lot of dusting so I have been looking at enclosed glass display units.

I'm still trying to figure out the right combination of space with models (live in an apartment). At least my wife is helping me out with a solution. Smile [:)]

Old used aquariums, homemade plexiglass lids.
Larger aquarium displays lit with aquarium lights.
No more dusting kits.....
and now I don't have to feed the fish

I have enclosed glass display cases that I bought on the cheap from various Store closings. The models still accumulate some dust, but not nearly as much, so it's a once a year cleaning chore.

I have mine on display at a local hobby shop. Beats having to dust them.

I have one room of a two bedroom condo that I keep my collection in. About 20+ aircraft are hanging from the ceiling, and the rest are sitting on floor-to-ceiling shelves on the two walls. I keep the door closed, and during the winter, I am able to keep the place relatively dust free with a room air filter running constantly. In the summertime when I have no AC and need the window open, the dust accumulates again, and I wait till things cool again to dust them all and keep them clean again. Keeoping the door closed keeps the wife and cats out too.

I have a glas display case. It keeps my models save from kids and other visitors!
The models are not dust free in behind glas, so I dust them once a year.
A glas cabinet can be a bit of an investment, but I have spend many hours building the models so it's worth it!

Basically, my pitiful collection (many older ones went to my son or scrap) are on a few bookcase shelves. Ouch! After all these years and time, I have only about 8 models that are worthy of display.
