Are there ANY hobby shops in Washington DC?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 7:47 PM
I've been trying to find if there are any hobby shops I could get to via Metro, but I haven't found anything!

Does anyone have any suggestions, or am I stuck with shopping online?

There has to be at least one hobby shop in the DC area. Maybe try the Yahoo! Yellow Pages. I've found that they have a good search and can give good directions about location.

Is there still a Squadron Shop there, or is that LONG gone?

I know that this is not in DC, but Piper Hobby over by Dulles international is the best shop around. Well, it was up until I moved from Manassas a little over a year ago.

I have a friend that lives in the Wheaton Md. area and when I visit him I stop by the shopping center where the Squadron shop was and observe a moment of silence- I really miss that place!
P.S.- A good shop in the Washington beltway ares is Grandad's hobbies on Portroyal road-I believe it is right off of the Braddock road exit off the beltway (see shop listings for Virginia in the back of FSM.It's a good shop for plastic kits, figures, etc..)

Sorry to hear that the Squadron Shop in Wheaton is no more. I did a lot of shopping there when I lived in MD. They had a great selection of everything you needed/wanted and were always helpful to all modelers, from novice to old timers. I knew there was a reason I retired to Florida.
