How long have you guys been modeling?

Myself, I built my first kit in December of 2003. I finally got an airbrush in August 2004. So I'd say I've been modeling about a year now.

I probably built my first model in 1975 or 1976 (can't really recall) and built various models on and off until about 1984. Then I took about 19 years off while serving in the USAF. I started building again a little over two years ago.

Started building about 1965 or so. Off and on since then. My last "Off" session ended about 18 months ago when I started back up again.

I built them from about 8 to 13 then found girls were more interesting. Joined the Navy and picked it up again from about 86 to 90 (went to the Gulf and when I came back wasn't interested) I picked it up about 1.5 yrs ago so I guess about 10 and a half yrs total... back in the 80's I learned a lot of things, but this time coming back it's a whole new world so I am really starting off in the shallow end of the pool...

I've been building since the late 60's. Pretty steady since then.

I built my first model during Ike's first administration and kept it up until his vice president was sitting in the oval office. I returned as an adult in 1975.

Started around 1950 with flying models. Got real heavy into scale model control line. Took some time off for College & Marriage. Started building static models in the early 1960's. Been at it fairly steady ever since, although subject matter has changed a few times over the years. Got heavy into building 1/43 race cars for a while, flirted with Armor, built an N-Scale model railroad, took a short fling with RC Aircraft. But I always seem to gravitate back to my true love, 1/48 WWII Aircraft. I also paint figures, mostly Fantasy stuff these days.

Started early 70's like gangbusters until early 80's. The usual hiatis until I joined the forum some 2 years ago. Whole new world from the early 80's with all the am stuff out there and manufacturers like Dragon. Now if I could just finish something.

1st ever build was a USS Nautilus in 1971. Still remember the smell of fresh glue. And then there was that Aurora Panther tank incident.....something about 10 cent Testor's green paint in the bathroom sink. Or was it Pactra?

Started in the mid 50's. Had to stop in the early to mid 60's when I went into the USAF. Started again in the mid 60's and haven't stopped or slowed down since.

25 years off and on and not all plastic (lots of flying models - free flight control line and R/C). Have been active again in the plastic arena about 12 months but have really picked up the pace this year.

I started at age 6 under helpful guidance of my granddad.
At age 15 I started painting models, so that would be my start for "serious" modelling.
So I have been modelling for about 20 years, but in all honesty, only the last 10 count.

I used to do the old slap-together builds when I was younger. Stopped from about 12yrs to 18yrs old. Got back into it about 2-3 years ago.

I guess it's been about six years that I've been back at it. Used to build as a kid, a little of everything, then the usual distractions came along, still managed to build a couple kits in college, then joined up with the Rod & Gun Club I'm in now and dabbled with some car kits, just didn't have the money as the family started to grow to really keep in it. Then over the last 5-6 years I've really gotten going again. Built up my stash and started trying new techniques and AM parts.

Oh, it's been about 10 years, maybe a little less. THere were periods in there where I didn't build much, but my first was that long ago. I started with a 1/48 Revellogram F-14.

Built my first kit in 1973. Been in and out of the hobbie for years, the last three years I split my time between this and r/c flying.

Been messing with it since I was 7 or 8, along with model rockets and R/C planes. Joined the Air Force in '89, got married in '91, started having kids in '92, divorced in '98, finally could afford to get back into it last year! Now it is my only hobby!

I started building models around 1970, but I'd have to say I've been "seriously" building since about 1995. Didn't get an airbrush until 1999! Not that you need an airbrush to "seriously" model, of course...

I built my first kit, with the help of my step-father, sometime in the late 70's. Continued building through High School till I graduated in '91. After that none of my apartments had any good modeling space until after I was married in '99. Started building a little bit then on the kitchen table. Bought a house in 2002 and set up a proper bench and have been going ever since. Long, strange trip.

I started in 1969 with my first plane, but I didn't really get going until 1971. Took a small year-and-a-half break in 1983-1985 when I first moved out of the house, and that was my only break. So, I'd say I've been continuously building for 32 years or so without any break, except the one mentioned above.

I only took that break because it was before Internet, I didn't know about mail order, and was living in a small town that didn't have a hobby shop for that year-and-a-half.
