Lighting for models?

How would I add lights to a model? I've seen this done before and think that it adds a nice touch. I'm guessing maybe an L.E.D. and Fiber optics? If anyone has any idea how this would be done, I'd love to hear about it. This is a plane, by the way.

Fiber optics for landing lights and dials and LED's for general lighting. The problem is a power source. What I saw one guy do is set his battery contacts in the wheels and matching contacts on a base. Lift the plane off the base and change the batteries. You coluld eliminate he need for a switch this way. Another guy ran the wiring throough the landing gear and had the bateries in a supply shed at he edge of thh base. Either the shed was not attached ot the roof was removable.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
