Most acrylics don't work well as awash for a lot of reasons. You should learn to use enamels or oils. There's no specific ratio, but aim for about 90% thinner and 10% paint. Adjust these until you get a thinned liquid that will allow capillary action to happen.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Is it 9 parts water:1 part paint? 50:50? 60:30? I forgot.
