What I love about modeling is...
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, July 30, 2005 3:00 PM
the fact that you make the models as good as you want them to be. By this I mean that you can make a $2.95 revell mini-snap together kit look better than a $200 large scale model. I love the fact that I can spend hours on cheap cheap models making them real, and basically make them look as good as I want them to look. (btw i did recently spend over 2 weeks on one of those snap together ones, fooling around with it and painting it and such).

Whats your favorite thing about modeling Question [?]

Just 2 weeks! My models take a month, at least! (and that's when I'm on vacation!)

My favorite thing is making my newest model look better then the one before that. Improving my skills to achieve the best result.

Altough I don't always achieve this goal. Sad [:(]

It's way more relaxing and rewarding than sitting in front of the boob tube whatching yet another stupid reality show.

I can pass it off as a hobby, when in fact I like to fly the finished planes around, making machine gun noises. Big Smile [:D]Propeller [8-]Clown [:o)]

...building models. Just having some time to concentrate on the kit I have in front of me and not let daily concerns intrude for a little while as I try to get the parts to line up correctly. To have my son come in and ask me what I'm doing and listen to him suggest what I could do next with the wonder of an 8 yr old is the greatest reward that comes from this hobby.

the chicks... it's most definitely all the chicks that dig modelers that I like about the hobby... ok.. well that is my wife so I guess chick would be what I meant... and modeler, not plural Wink [;)]

I think like LemonJello said the relaxation and getting into a trance kinda while concentrating that the outside world isn't a part of...

and the second comment he made had me thinking back to when I was 6 to 8 or so and watching my dads models take shape...dreaming what it would look like and putting it in a fictitious dio in my head and thinking of what would look good with it...

I love listening to music while I model, and you get into an otherworldly trance while you are making styrene into a creation. Cool [8D]

Viking? Don't be ridiculous! I wear a Roman Centurion's helmet when I model or I just don't model! What? Don't look at me like that. Where are you going?

What I love about modeling is that I can sit at my bench for a couple of hours, and forget that the rest of the world exists.

Hmm... I'd have to say building something. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. The model i'm building now is a tribute, so when i finish it i'll feel really good about myself.

I think it's the act of creation - putting life into an inanimate lump of plastic - making it look like the real thing - only shrunk.
I also enjoy opening up a brand new model - closely examining all the parts - checking for flaws - imagining how it'll go together and trying to anticipate and overcome possible build problems.

Cheers, LeeTree

For me its about getting away from the rest of the world for a couple of hours and the satisfaction of creating a replica of my favourite aircraft. A great way to relax, and forget my troubles for a bit.

One of the things I love about modeling: the time alone just doing something that has no deadline, can be built any way and any time you want.

I also love seeing something 'grow' from a series of plastic pieces into a miniature tribute and representation of history.

Dave, are you sure that's not the glue fumes causing the "otherworldly trance"? Wink [;)]

I really like how solid and substantial modeling is compared to playing video games or watching television. When I'm done with a modeling session I (usually) can see tangible progress. I like that my skills improve with practice.

I also like that each kit presents new challenges. A lot of the fun of modeling is running into a problem and figuring out a solution.

And I gotta agree about the chicks (well, my wife anyway).

Regards,

-Drew

To the store to buy a roman centurion helmut!

I want one with the funny shaped hair brush on top. Tongue [:P]

Me too, along with the engine noises and tank gun blasts of my armor and gun blasts and missile launchings on my ships! I also love seeing my collection increase in size too!

A. A chance to relax and forget about how bad the day at work really went

B. The fact that I can do something and if I screw up nobody is going to ream me

C. A little time by my self (and I'm not irritating my wife)

E. A chance to build something (that's what I really like - building just about anything - but I prefer models).

F. Listen to music that I like that but my wife doesn't (AC/DC or Wagner for example - in fact I just bought a Drums & Pipes (as in Bagpipes) tape that I really like and know she will hate)

G. Indulge in my second hobby, buying really neat tools that I''ll probably only use twice on a model.
