Question on what I should do. (Armor modellers)
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 5, 2005 4:42 PM
Hi guys, as you all remember I have completed my most recant build, my KT and I want to know if I should add snow. I have it on a small base with two guys (I don't think they are very good), should I add the snow? A very thin layer on the bottom and just a bit on the tank.

BTW: If I were to put snow on the KT how should I?

Here a shot of it... (for more pic's visit my site)

Thanks guysSmile [:)]

Anthony, you might have more success with this question in the armor forum. If you saw CDN Tankers Sherman/w snow, that might help you out. Personally, I think it is a matter of personal preference as far as snow is concerned, so I'm of no help.

More important than snow is general ground work. A tank looks fine on a plaque by itself but with figures, IMHO, it realy needs some ground to tie the pieces together. If you haven't glues it down yet, mask off the edges and drill some 1/8 inch hoes in the base. Get some Celluclay, an instant papoer mache available at hobby and craft stores. Make a batch by adding some white glue, brown acrylic paint and water. It should be the consistency of thick oatmeal. Spread this over the base to where you've masked no more than 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick Press the tank down into it to get slight depression for the tracks. Allow it to dry for a day or so under a desk lamp. Add high lights by drybrushing light brown. Use some thinned white gue to attach some turn of static grass product or add your snow product. Drill a hole in one foot of each figure and add a 1/32 or smaller length of brass rod. Drill corressponding hole in the base material where you want your figures to stand. Attach them with superglue or epoxy. Attach the tank with epoxy.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

While there's no armor here, you can see various types of ground cover and how the figures blend into the surroundings. The Viking on the hillside has a combination of kit base and my added ground work.
