Eric, the route 17 one is Hi-Way Hobby House. right pass the Ramsey exit on 17 North, pretty tight turn for the entrance. http://www.hiwayhobby.com
It is pretty much the only local hobby shop for me even though it's a 20mile drive still. Has a fairly good selection of kits (Hardly ANY DMLs!!!!! not fair!!!), and the price are pretty much at the general market level. In addition to that, a third of the store is dedicated to railway modeling.

Baseline is very good, but mostly armor. there is a really good one down on sunset boulevard on the island, but it's about 1hr 45 minutes from the city.

Slim pickin's... That's what I was afraid of. I guess the large hobby shops wouldn't be able to afford the rent in NYC.

Well, I'll try Jan's then, or else venture out to NJ.

Again, thanks for the info.

Take care,

Mark

A good idea is to check the Internet and Yellow Pages-and call ahead-things change rapidly in NYC.

the best i know of is jan's, in manhattan. there's a couple more that are pretty good, but they're even farther down the island. cant tell ya which street off-hand, but jan's is somewhere in the vicinity of harlem, towards the east side.

Hey Everyone,

My wife and I are finally in the process of moving to New York City. Last week, we found an apartment in Queens, and at least some of my fears about my future in the modeling sport were allayed. I had been envisioning trying to airbrush in an apartment the size of a broom closet, but actually we found a pretty large one-bedroom place.

Still have one concern, though: does anyone know of any very good shops for our hobby in the NYC area? In Atlanta, I've become used to a LHC that not only carries an extensive inventory of aircraft from a pretty good range of manufacturers, but they also offer all kinds of styrene, metal and basswood/ balsa materials. This is important to me, because I've really gotten into scratch-building planes.

As always, your help is appreciated. Take care,

Mark
