What if you don't WANT to finish it?

Its happened to me to, I have 4 uncompleted builds that I want to put behind me, however there's always some other kit that gets all my attention. I'll probably won't get to them until I retire methinks!

I have a similar motivation problem. I tend to do just one at a time, and obsess over all sorts of little things; I still haven't finished any of the twelve or so kits on my shelf. I've been putting it off, and putting it off, and meanwhile the stockpile grows...By the time fall semester starts, all I have to show for my effort is an ugly (but functional) plywood spray booth in my bedroom window, a cluttered work area surrounding it, an unfinished model lying there collecting dust (which will have to be washed AGAIN for the umpteenth time), and a $1000 balance on my credit card.

Be glad when you get done with your projects. When you're working, it's a satisfying experience, but it's even more satisfying having a handsome model that's completed.

i always have 2 to 4 models on the bench
i get tired of one and go to the other
i dont want to marry the one model
i want to fool around with a bunch of them

ps your ex is right you ( and i and all modelers ) are a bit nuts

I know exactly what your going through. The 1/700 Lexington in my sig was for my dad, and it was a new adventure for me to build. I had such a good time building it, and the joy it was giving me to see it evolve and knowing what it was going to do for him, I never wanted this project to end.

I'm seeing a trend in this. The models I build for others seem to be great builds and are finished on time, and then I get this empty feeling when they are done. When I build one for myself, I have a problem finishing it because I seem to not have any drive to keep on building it, I seem to lose interest in my own builds.

Usually if I have something unfinished, it's because of a lack of motivation, not a lack of a desire to finish.

I second that statement. I have no attention span, and it therefore takes me at least 2 months to finish the most mundane kit straight from the box. And when I can wrap one up, I am never happier.

It's kinda like reading a book you don't want to end-but remember there are a lot more good books, and models, to be had.

Same here... I recently started the Hasegawa 1/32 FW-190 A8 and dove in with a passion. Suddenly almost to the point of priming then painting I decided I needed a break from it.

I guess the first FAA Martlet I did was a let down to finish... I didn't spend near the time nor money you did on your build but it was very fun and I started thinking about "what do I do when I am done" as I got closer...

More often than not I lose a little interest and put it aside for a few days to get my head straight again less I mess it up...

I sometimes get a build almost complete & then kinda lose interest & let it set for a while & start other builds. Same result as you, just a different reason.

I never had your problem, I often have some sort of "finishing frenzy" . In which I try to finish the model as quick as possible,just to start a new one!

I know what you mean but it is very satisfying to finish a very good model.
