what are the small things that increase your enthusiasm for a build?

I just got a kit of an F9F-5 and when I opened it up, miracle of miracles, the parts were molded grey! Now I can see the details I need to work on, I'll be able to see what has been painted and what hasn't, and revell is taking us seriously enough not to make their kits the color they will be when completed!

Small things? Hmmm, I would have to say when I look at my collection of unbuilt models sitting on my shelves.
That gives me inspiration to build.
Also keeping my reference materials, books, mags, pics etc within viewing distance seems to keep my spirits up.
Not really related but just wanted to share.

At this (early) point in my model-making experience, I get enthusiastic when I find a kit that fits fairly well, has parts that don't break when I try to hold them in place, etc. It's also nice if the model has a passing resemblance to the actual thing, since I'm not ready to do lots of gung-ho correction just yet. All of that makes it easier for me to keep my interest going through the occasional tedious parts so that I can see the finished product.

Getting the right paint / thinner ratio and my airbrush works.

Adding photoetch. It seems like a mircle takes place when I step back and see how much detail has transpired.

Rigging a delicate step and finding out I did it right.

Hanging out with other modelers.

watching the history channel and seeing the certain tanks and vehicles driving around and looking at peoples finished builds.
just a a couple of the many thing s that spark me to model.

builds by other modelers, pics in books or on TV, certain stories i read.....the usual stuff. sometimes it jsut the way a kit looks on the shelf in the store.

the closer my build gets to resembing the finished vehicle, the more enthusiasm I get. especially when its time to whip out the AB to paint, which is my favorite part of model building.

when I see a pic of a well built model that I have in the unbuilt stash, that gets me motivated.

looking at pics of people's dioramas on these and other forums. that really gives me enthusiasm. seeing dioramas was what got me interested in models when I was a kid. always amazed by the detail.

Yup, I love painting too, just get hung up on weathering.

Also, a lot of time and beer doesn't hurt my enthusiasm either. Wink [;)]

now that is the one thing I hate! I hate painting my builds. I geuss its cause I can never get my AB to work the way I want it too. I have a couple models that have been waiting for paint for quite some time now.

After I've bought the kit, bought the aftermarket items, the paints and supplies and the reference books, I'm really motivated to build the kit after all the money I've put into it Big Smile [:D]

Well numbered sprues and pictures in instructions when those instructions happen to only be in Japanese. I really appreciate that.

A lot of little things get me going. Seeing my workbench with nothing on it, clean and ready. Looking at my stash, or my magazines, or surfing through these forums is usually enough to peak my interest in something.

Seeing pics of completed projects, either on these boards, or in magazines. Reading through modeling how-to books. Reading through instruction sheets. All these things will get me geared up to start a model . . . .

i build sci-fi figures,so when i see a movie,toy or other merchandise for my hobby,i tend to get that extra "boost" to finish my unbuilt models! Big Smile [:D]

Seeing a referrence picture of somthing that I want to build. For some reason when I just look at pictures of the real thing I become inspired.

- Reading books and watching movies (mainly war related of course) with my preferred subjects (mostly planes)
- Special interest in the planes my father used to work on.
- Going thru the stuff in the LHS.
- Going thru my own stash here at home.
