How do you display models in an apartment

i do mostly 1:72 scale, but my cabinets have SW Unleashed toys together with them. i go to this shop where Department stores have thier jewelry cainets made. they can make it really cheap compared to the places where they really sell this stuff about $100 to a 47" x 60"

I have a display case I got from a pool store downsizing. its about 15"x20"x45" with glass on top and front, keeps the models clean...trick is to handle built kits as little as possible. and when you run out of room, pack up the oldest, to make room for the new.
That case from IKEA looks like a really nice space saver.

My wife likes the cars I build but, we have a very small apartment. I store all built kits. I display the model of the month in the living room and the bedroom has a few favorites on display all the time. I store my 300+ kits in my mom's basement. A 30 year+ collection.

I'd stick to 1/72 and smaller scales. If you're going to be doing a lot of building then 1/48 and larger scales will fill the apartment rather quickly. Besides getting shelves or a cabinet, places like the top of stereo speakers can make great shelves for models (provided the speakers are big enough).

I'm in a similar situation. My household has 8 people in it, so space is at a premium. My solution was to set up a good sized desk and work area near a window. I have a box fan to take spray out of the window when airbrushing. I'm also working on building a spraybooth that can easily be taken down and put in a small place. I have a relatively small & quiet compressor.

The other stuff really doesn't take a lot of space. Keep the amount of kits you have stockpiled low. Mine fit on a single shelf. Paints, glues, putties and sand paper don't take a lot of space.

When you fnish a kit, you may want to see if the hobby shop would be willing to display it. It could possibly be hung from the cealing or in a case there or something.

I went to Ikea and picked up a slender cabinet when I lived in an Apartment. Here is an idea of one:

Ikea is a LOT cheaper than a reg. furniture store, but if you feel up to it, you may be able to find a similar steal at a garage sale. I believe they are called Curio cabinets, but don't quote me, and don't limit your search to that. I think mine is actually considered a "china cabinet", but is perfect for my models. Good Luck!!

Well Rockwell, I have a similar problem with myself. I am limited to buliding and displaying models in one room. I use shelfs that can hang from walls and a book shelf for larger models. If whoever owns the apartment allows it, you can drill the shelfs into the wall. After awhile you may encounter a similar problem as your masterpeices stock up, but I can't help you there. Good job getting in a collage!
