Kit Boxes

Do you guys keep the kit boxes of the models you had finished building?

No matter how messy my desks get, I tend to be anal about keeping the rooms clean. (One of the ways to pass my mother's weekly inspections when she comes over...) But having so many boxes and more coming in the mail definitely doesn't help my cause. I normally keep the tamiya empty boxes for collection (it's apparently becoming a problem as I start to accumulate too many of them...)and the rest of the empty ones gets the cut-up. saving the top box art or simply just fold the sides underneath and get rid of the bottom pieces filled with empty sprues. The Tamiya and Dragon's box top by volstad are abosolutely art pieces by themselves. One day hopefully I get crazy enough to decorate an entire wall with box tops. So what do you guys do with those boxes after you put the built models on display?

If I like the artwork, or if it's a special kit, I save the boxtop.
This, however, is most of the time (The thruth is that they are are sort of trofies, a mental counterweight to my whole stash of new kits)

I just throw them out after the build is done. I used to save them before, then realized I never used them for anything.

nope, they go staight to the trash. No reason for me to keep them. I do save the bigger ones sometimes for keeping spares, sheet styrene and stuff like that.

I used to cut the boxtops off, but realized I had no use for them. However, on some of my kits in the stash, I want to cut them out and frame them, adorning my hobbyroom walls.

i Went to a Model exhibition once. the models displayed were placed on top of their boxes.. it looked pretty good though, people can compare box art to the real thing..

i used to cut the top part save the top and one of the sides i had about 300 or so but lost them all to water pipe in the basement about 8 yrs ago

I bought a book on how to de-clutter your house. Since then, anything that doesn't have a definite function gets tossed or sold. And considering that my bedroom is only about 8x12 I can't afford the clutter! I wish I could save some boxes just for the art though.

HAHAHA, those, I threw away, together with the games... Who still plays the first Rainbowsix anyways~

So I guess most of the guys out there realize in a later time that the whole saving thing turns into something pointless. Ack, guess I will stick with my hope that my future wife will let me have a wall covered with box tops and keep on saving them. (it's good to be young and full of unreachable dreams!!) I am notorious for keeping crap I think I will need in the place. Maybe time will change things.

I still have some boxes of my C-64 games (such as Silent Service 2, that was a cool game!)

I keep the box tops,i dont like clutter but i cant bring myself to throw them out.

might as well get a quote from them to pay for the book's replacement. otherwise they'd charge ur wallet up the wazoo for the late fee AND the cost of the book.

if you follow those booksyou have to get rid of the models too the have no real function and maybe the wife or the kids lol

I usually save the non-damage box tops that are from limited-run manufactures. Most of the times they do get damage, I don't know how though Evil [}:)] . I cut the corners so I can lay them flat and store it in a plastic container to save space in my closet. Maybe some day they might me worth something , just maybe…

The only art I keep are the profiles that come on the cardboard that separates the sprues from the decals and clear parts in the AM kits. The Thomas brothers are true artists imho...and I love their profiles. The Helldiver kit I just got yesterday is bigger than average and so was the profile!

I fill them with the left over pieces, and throw it all in the trash! Kinda like a victory dance, per say? I do like the idea of cutting some out, a lot of the Tamiya kits have nice art work. It would be cool to frame some of them!
