I agree with Scott-email allows keyboard courage, generalities and a nonchalant attitude. A phone call cuts to the case but you will have to be assertive. Plus-vague guarantees like price-matching are generally full of little loop holes that render them pointless. Go for good up-front service, fair pricing and ignore gimmicks.

Screw e-mail, take it from someone who deals in quotes and prices 10 hrs a day, when it comes to making a deal, use the phone. E-mail is slow, unrespronsive, and unsecure. It is good to have them email a confirmation so that you have something in writing after you phone call.

I've been through this with GM and every other site, if you want to get something done, then call them and ask to speak with someone who can give you a firm answer to your question, not a parrot response off of a computer screen.

Great Models Price Match

Has anyone else tried getting them to follow through with their guarantee to price match?

I found a model of the HMS Victory by Revell Germany and it is like pulling teeth trying to deal with their customer service:

First email to them:

Hi, My id name is Heavywood and I was looking to buy a model from your site. I have found one of the kits cheaper at a different website. So, how do I go about taking advantage of the Great Models guarentee to match a competitors price?

The kit is the 1/146 HMS Victory by Revell Germany and the competitor's link is http://www.hungates.com/Products/Models/Plastic/Ships/H.M.S._Victory_by_Revell-Germany_(Model_Kit__05408).html

Thank you for your prompt response.

First email from them (unedited):

Dear sir there item has to be in stock and so dose ares .
Thank you.
(I won't post his name)

2nd email to them:

Both sites say the item is in stock, and that didn't answer my question on what the process is to get this price matched.

Response from GM:

Dear sir you need to send me an e_mail of there web sit .
And tell me the item id # and how much theres is.
Along with your customer id.
Thank you.

My latest response (nearing my patience limit):

The Model Kit is #05408 and it is titled the HMS Victory by Revell Germany. The competing website is www.hungates.com Their customer service email address is customerservice@hungates.com The kit code is Code: 100336274 at their website. It costs $22.74 at Hungates (that is the name of their website) The product number at Greatmodels is rmg5408 and costs $25.95.

My customer ID is Heavywood.

Keep in mind, all this is inlined into the email message, and all this guy has to do is scroll down and he will see all the requested info. I really can't wait for a response, since up to now I have been unimpressed by this service quality. Next time, I will remember to go to the cheaper site instead of trying to get them to follow through.
