Can anyone tell me why companies put chrome plating on the model pieces and then in the end they call for paint in the instructions. I am doing the Mad magazine funny car and half the kit is chrome plated and not one piece actually stays chrome

if the chrome parts needs to be painted just stick the chrome parts into some 409 or simple green and the the chrome parts will be striped of crome then wash the parts real good the paint them...just let the chrome parts set in the 409 or simple green untill the chrome disolves of the part...

Another way to remove the chrome is to place the parts in bleach. As to get a new chrome plating, there are companies that offer that service, but I've never used their services. I'm sure someone out here can direct you to some of those companies.
