EBay Scam?
Posted by wayne baker on Thursday, November 24, 2005 4:36 PM
Just got my second notice that my EBay account might be compromised.  Very official looking site with a convienent click here to give us your information again.  Funny thing is I don't have an EBay account.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Forward it to abuse@ebay.com they would be interested in examining it.

So long folks!

That is good advice to forward it to eBay.

I rec'd an email the other day telling me my eBay account was going to expire.  I've never heard of such a thing, but I could see someone getting worried and clicking on the link without thinking about it.

The best advice nowadays when receiving emails from places like eBay, Amazon.com, your bank, and other places is to not click on the link but type the address directly in your browser.  Especially when it's dealing with your account.

I just bought something off ebay about 5 minutes ago. your thread just scared the Censored [censored] out of me 2 seconds ago! Big Smile [:D] Thanks for the warning though, I think I have gotten these before and reported it and I never heard anything about it again?

I get emails like that all the time. I get them from credit card companies I don't have credit cards with, or banks I don't do business with. Some of the emails look pretty convincing, some of  them are funny as the person writing it doesn't have a strong grasp of the English language. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) would probably like to know who's sending these to you as well as the company the email is supposedly representing. Look on your login page; there is usually a link to information about how to report bogus emails. The bottom line is:  no legitimate business should ask you for personal information through an email, especially bank account info.

You need to forward them to spoof@ebay.com. I get those all the time. Crooks are attempting to scare you into revealing credit card numbers, etc. Remember, Ebay, or any of the auction sites have your info and they don't need to verify anything. It's an old scam, and unfortunately people fall for it.

It isn't spam, most of it is "pish"ing, just delete, I get them all the time from e-bay and banks that I don't do business with. I've evne gotten some from my "bank" and they don't send them.
