Cats & models
Posted by knight667 on Friday, December 2, 2005 4:15 PM
So I got my new Henschel Hs-129B-2 in the mail yesterday, and my wife and I were checking it out (she always likes to see my new kits).  So we have the box top off, and I look over, and my cat has invaded!

He didn't hurt it, but it was funny.  He loves boxes. :)

What is it about cats and boxes? My cat does the same thing whenever I bring any box into the house.

My cat doesn't seem to like empty boxes, she likes boxes with models in themAngry [:(!] If I bring a box in there for her, she turns her nose up at it, but if I open a new model and set it down, she will be in it in a second! She likes to lay on my desk when its messy. I think she has a secret plan to drive me insane!!! (short trip)

My wife and I have taken great care in teaching our 2 cats that jumping on counters or tables is not exceptable behaivor.  Also we dont feed them table scraps so when we prepare meals and  eat they dont try to jump up to get their share.   So I can leave my boxes open on my desk and not worry, but If I were to leave them on floor...  We do allow them 1 exception,  they are allowed to come up and lay on our computer monitors.  Must be a cat thing or perhaps they like the warmth and I enjoy the company any way.

Ever catch them on the counter? My wife and I have the same rules about counters, tables and table scraps. The cat gets on the counter every time we leave the house together. My cat was also severely PO'd when I went from CRT to LCD.

My cat loves boxes too, but her real love is large brown paper grocery bags.

So long folks!

My cat also loves boxes, hehe. But as soon as he gets near my modeling desk I send him out of the room.

yes most cats like tv/crt    it's the heat

my cat does not like boxes likes paper shopping bags  goes inside them

1 think that gets me (the cat knows what buttons to push to get to me)

he gives me no more than a min to respond to what he wants if i don't he jumps on the models and begins to push them off the shelf 1 at a time until i respond

That reminds me of a cat the old lady and I saw when we went fishing in Michigan! That thing was huge, we are sitting on a boat, back in a little cove and she looks at me and says "is that a cat or a dog?" I couldn't tell, we got closer and its a white cat! That thing was probably an easy two feet long!!! I have never seen a cat that big before!

He is a big cat about 25 pounds right now heavy to pick up. He loves boxs he will get in boxes that are to small for him then ends up breaking them. But he is a good cat never goes after a model.

Hee Hee, those pics are funny.  I just adopted a 6 week old terror of the feet back in August.  Here is an exceprt I wrote in a earlier post about one of his antics last month.  He has taken quit fondly to my Labradors.

At approximately 7:55am on October 28, a lone unidentified aircraft made its way through both the outer defenses and the secondary defenses set up to protect the dry-dock facilities at Scott's Shipyards.  The attacker came in low under radar and was in stealth mode so that it could not be detected by audiophonic listening devises or the K9 Labrador early warning system.  At about 8 am it made its attack on the Arizona, which was dry-docked and undergoing an extensive remodeling of its superstructure and armament.  The attacker made one run on the Arizona and scored four hits on the defenseless ship.  Damage was superficial on the forward superstructure; however, the rear observation tower and number three turret took a direct hit.  This damage was severe in that the number three TMW PE catapult was about 90% complete and was completely destroyed.  Also, a direct hit was placed on a lone WEM 02 observation plane which was completed and being fitted to the catapult.   This aircraft was a total write-off.
Repairs to the ship may have set back the completion of the project at least two weeks, which is already experiencing both high cost over-runs and is at risk of missing a December 7th deployment.
The attacker was picked up on audiophonic listening after it was about to embark on a second attack and was subdued, after a long chase around the dockyard, by intercepting forces.  The pilot was captured and is in lock down undergoing intelligence debriefing.
The attacker was described as being a very light and agile craft with black and white markings and had stealth capabilities.  It had four primary defense mechanisms that would allow it to impose smashing effects on maritime and aviation structures and also create painful, searing abrasions on human flesh.   Although it sounded like it was powered by an internal combustion engine, it seemed, after evaluating the odors of the exhaust, that it was powered by some organic method of fuel.
The pilot was described as being 6" tall, 13 1/4 " long, is missing thumbs, wearing a fur flight suite, had yellow slanted eyes, speaks in code of high pitched consonants, and only responds when scratched behind the ears or offered small biscuits made of dried fish.
A Congressional investigation is being conducted as to why and how the primary defenses were left open to the shipyard and extensive training in shipyard security procedures will be conducted to all staff and family members of the shipyard.
Further training and evaluation will be conducted on the K9 Labrador early warning system because it failed to alert the where a bouts of the said attacker to dockyard officials.
The Senate has asked that a declaration of war be presented and that the attacker be deported to an isolated farm in Southwestern Kansas where it may end up being an evening meal for the resident coyotes, but this proposal was rejected by the House, who has strong, emotional ties to the attacker.
Pictures are still classified but may be posted when they become declassified.

My cat likes boxes, too.  For all those modellers who find a cat sitting in a box lid, slowly get down on your hands and knees and slowly put out a hand and take a hold of the side of the lid with the cat still in it.   Then s-l-o-w-l-y pull the lid gently along the floor.  If the box is on a carpet or rug, the sound which it makes is fascinating to a cat!  They hear the sound and can feel the carpet moving under the lid!  My cat thinks this is great fun and will try and scratch the carpet through the lid!  She'll then jump out and try to get her paws under the lid to find what is making the noise.  Having tried that, she'll jump back in and wait to be pulled around some more.  Great fun and very good for the blood pressure!  I,ve had three cats over the years and only the first one damaged a model - just one. A 1/400 Scharnhorst with a complete set of scratchbuilt streched-sprue rigging.  She simply ate all the rigging down to the level of the funnel top!  Must have been the crunching sound she liked!  Never touched another model, though. And no, I did not retaliate.  She lived to the ripe old age of 16 years.

I don't know whats up with that, but its kinda odd to wake up to the cat licking the back of your head. One thing she does enjoy are my earrings, and let me tell ya, thats not much fun when she starts pawing at them!

My cat likes to "help" me when I paint. She has a small blue spot on her fur from head butting my brush hand last weekend. It was artists oils, so it came out, but for a slight stain that's gone now, but it was pretty funny. She sits on one of my legs and watches me paint, trying to play along.

My old cat used to walk back and forth past my work table (the coffee table) and her tail would be stuck up in the air and she'd knock off my paint pallet and get paint in her fur. This one also loved boxes.
