Hi Dave,
2005 was a good year for me. The biggest event was the birth of my son, our first baby, on November 19th!
An article I wrote on WWII liaison planes was published this past year in "America in WWII Magazine." The same magazine has commissioned me to write another article on a local air museum that's due in February. I'm going to mention that museum's very nice collection of scale models in the article.
Modelling was slow this year, but intense. Slow because I work full time, am going to grad school, and I had to build a nursery for the baby. Intense because of what I've been working on.
Every model I've built in the past three years has involved learning a host of new skills. The 1/74 scale Glencoe MB-2 has been no exception. I've improved my figure painting; learned the delicate art of repairing bone-headed mistakes; learned new and more efficient ways to sand molding flaws and seams; and learned how to rig a biplane!
I intend to finish that kit in the first part of this year, and then turn the bulk of my attention to a wooden ship kit/scratchbuilding project that I started last year.
I also hope to build a few simple planes: the Revell 1/72 Yak-38 and Revell 1/144 B-52G are two that I think I can finish well in a short period of time. The B-52, in particular, will challenge me because it needs a two-tone camoflauge scheme with a grey underbelly. Depending on how well things go, I may buy a PE folding tool and go to work on the Part PE set I've got for my 1/72 Roden Fokker D.7!
Naturally, balance is everything, but
my resolution is to do more modeling this year by spending less time on the computer in the evenings!Regards,
