Your favorite online hobbyshop
Posted by eizzle on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 8:18 PM
What is your favorite online hobbyshop. The reason I ask is because the ones I normally use (hobbylinc and greatmodels) either don't have what I am looking for, or seem to cancel them right after I order them. I know most of the time its not their fault, but it seems that greatmodels has a lot of things I can't seem to find anywhere else, so if you guys can shoot me some links to a few good online retailers, that would be great! Thank you in advance gentlemen!

I like Squadron, Michigan Discount Models and Ebay.  I have had some "difficulties" with Greatmodels recently but it hasn't discouraged me from using them either.

On a side note, this is exactly why I wish there was something here to rate the various online retailers, to share who the good ones are and the ones to avoid.  People can share stories and the consumer can see trends in customer service.

This is very true. greatmodels seems to be pretty good, but I have had a few things just canceled shortly after I order them, which is a pain, and the time from ordering to shipping seems to take forever, but maybe its just the one time? I am by no means saying I wouldn't shop from them, but this first order has been a pain but oh well. We do need a rating system, that would be very nice, and very helpful for new members so they can find some places to get hard to find stuff most LHS don't carry. Whats the site for Michigan discount models?

Pretty good selection and very good prices, especially when he has his emailing list discounts.  The thing that impressed me most was all my 3 orders were completed within a week, including shipping.  Of course I just like in Wisconsin Smile [:)]

Well, From now on I will deal with Squadron exclusively. I am tired of Great Models screwin' up & taking forever on an order!!Disapprove [V]Angry [:(!] Squadron treats me right & I prefer to be treated with respect especially when there's a problem with an order, missing parts, etc.  There are times where I'll order direct from White Ensign Models, Paragon Designs as it's cheaper to do so.

Thank you Glamdring. He does seem to have a nice selection. I read he is located in SE Michigan, what a shame, I was just in that area since last Thursday, and just got home today. Oh well, thats what the internet is good for Big Smile [:D]

Ed, I feel your pain, I really do. I had a couple PE sets on order and I wanted to get them before I started the kits, but now all of them but 1 are either back ordered or on special order. I guess it gripes me because it says in stock on the site, but when you check the order status, its being ordered? I guess Censored [censored] happens?

Try Kitlink Great Model's guaranteed to be in stock branch, they also claim they will be the lowest price. From their website:

All items at KitLink.com are IN STOCK and ready to ship. If you order before 2PM MST (Mountain Standard Time), your order will ship on the SAME DAY. Otherwise, it will ship next WORKING day (Monday through Friday, except holidays).

I took a look at kitlink Bgrigg, but I couldn't seem to get there site to work? All I could find were the new releases, no way to search or anything? Maybe its my slow $^% dial up?

On Nov 9th my order was processed (pre-ordered the 1/72 Eduard PE set for the RA-5C & model, and a couple other items. I sent in a M.O. for full amount. Got the model & something they forgot to send to me last year! (small Koster .50 cal) The Vigi PE set came in a few days later & I asked that it be shipped (via order status page) after 2 weeks of "payment pending" I called, cancelled the special order & ordered another PE set (they were charging me shipping anyways) I just called them today as my order as still "Pending Payment". They screwed up  somewhere as I had the gal read off the card # & billing info (which was correct)
I've waited 2 months so far for the Vigi PE SetBoohoo [BH] I'm through with GMW.Dead [xx(]

Hmmm?

The search box is just above the new releases, you should be able to enter a keyword and search. There is a button for Advanced Search which drops down a mini menu for category, scale and manufacturer.

I'll try Ed's Vigi PE...

There are two listed at Kitlink

SKU # EDUSS231 pre-painted for Trumpeter 1/72 RA-5C Vigilante $11.95
SKU #
EDU73231 aslo pre-painted for the above $14.95 this one comes with an additional sprue (is it still called a sprue for PE?) of unprinted PE, looks like engine and wing details.

The site works just fine for my 2.5MB ADSL Extreme High Speed connection (just rubbin' it in!).

Ed, I also feel your pain! I haven't had a bad experience yet with Great Models, mind you my experience amounts to one single solitary order of over $200 with all items filled and shipped within 10 days.

So long folks!

Bgrigg, I had ordered the EDU73231 as that is pre-painted & has all them goodies for the rest of the aircraft, landing gear, etc. (they're doing a 1/48 too) with PE sets, I think the trees are called frets not sprues.
I just checked GMW to see how my order was coming along... being packed now... go figure!! Hopefully in a few days I can give ya a review on the PE set. I'll stick to Squadron from now on. Been dealing with them for 4 &1/2 yrs now. & GMW a few times in the same time frame.

Considering you made the order during the X-mas rush, that's not too bad.

Ed, I just got my GMW order today! Well, my daughter woke me up and said there was a package on the porch for me? I didn't know fedex delivered on Sundays? All the trouble I had because of a screwed up gift card, I sent them the remaining balance, and on the invoice it gives the total for the order, and the total I have in store credit and even with the back ordered stuff, I still have a good $50 left!? I don't understand that, I sent them the balance based on what they told me on the phone, so I guess I got to figure out what to buy for fifty bucks? This is gonna be hardMischief [:-,]
