For me it is the MPM Petlyakov Pe-2 in 1/48. Damm shame, too....an interesting subject and an impressive aircraft in it's own right. Has put me off any further attempts at anything bearing MPM's label.

Millenium Falcon from Revell. Nothing fitted and bad instructions. But I had a good time together with my 6-year old son building it, I'll keep that memory close to heart and forget about the model itself.

I've had some decent Revell experiences, I'm fully expecting the Panzerhabitze 2000 to be a joy to build.

On the other hand, I've also encountered... the Revell EC-135 in 1/72. I posted about it on the choppers board. Open it up, and it looks fantastic. Crisp detail, little flash, and a great decal sheet. Only problem is that the 1/72 label on the outside of the box is just an average. Atrocious fit. Others who have built the kit apparently agree, with one other poster saying it is a contender for 'worst-fitting-kit-in-the-world'. The 1/32 version isn't much better, apparently.

Revell 1/144 international space station was horrible.  The level of detail is not so good, the stacking of all modules ends up being not straight.  The solar arrays are to heavy and the plastic ends have broke down.  I still have to repair them and I really don't know how to fix it.  There is also a curve in each of them!!! That's poor.

I think Revell sucks simply!  I can hear some of you saying "don't make your opinion with only one bad experience" but every Revell models I made had to be repair, modified or ended up in the trash.  Even the 1/96 saturn V rocket is poorly reproduced with curved parts and horrible engineering.

No matter where you go ....... there you are.

Monogram 1/48 F-101B.  The nose section to fuselage join did not match up.  The joint has a definite step and flat areas making a matchup impossible.  The main landing gear has no way to securely attach to the wing.  It just sets into a recessed part with no locating pins or sturdy mounts.  The gear actuator is too long making the gear bow outward.  The rotating weapons door has a gap that would scale out to around six inches.  The real aircraft had rain seals that made the door flush with very little gap.   I got the model about 2/3 done, threw it on a top shelf where it was destroyed when Hurricane Ivan threw a tree limb through my roof.

Classic Airframes F2A1. Ok kit, crappy instructions. And the silly thing seems to be jinx'd! NOTHING I've done so far has went smooth. I will win, dammit! But she is putting up a good fight!

upnorth,
The company that went "belly up" years back was Renwal. I bought that kit (Visible Woman) when I was in the eighth grade, built it, painted everything, and it fit just fine, even the pregnant version; in fact, I still have the thing! Used it for an EMT training class a coupla years ago, too. Revell must've screwed up the molds...

After a 20+ year break, I came back into the hobby with a 1/72 Italeiri F-14 I picked up for cheap.  Got about half way done and threw it back into the box after realizing how much filler and sanding I would have to do to make it decent.  Once again, the old adage, "You get what you pay for." rings true.  Maybe I'll get back to it someday, or not.  Too many other kits I'd rather build.

A.E.F.'s Colonial Marines.  I know that they are old but, I just got started on them.  The fit is poor.  I believe that they are out of scale to themselves.  FLASH. HA.  These things have resin all over the place.  I actually carved off most of the details and just redid things.

Also I am reading all of these and making a list of what might not be a good idea.  Thanks everyone!

1/48 AMT/Ertl A-10 Warthog

I swear I got the last kit they popped out of the mold, because there was a crazy amount of flash on nearly every single part. Cleaning everything up was a bear. Lackluster detail, soft plastic, and no centerline bomb rack for some odd reason. Most of the ordnance lacks detail too, and looks very toy-ish. Did I mention the wings fit badly?

I hate to slam this kit, but I'm really in a quandry on whether or not I should finish it. It started out as a 'fun' build...just something to build up quick and easy. But at this point, I'm at a standstill because I just don't want to put any more effort or paint into something that will turn out mediocre at best. Sigh [sigh]

revell 1/72 f-18 "eagle nose art"...kit was ok i guess, dispite wrong part numbers in the instructions, the transfers were a nightmare, they were more like tracing paper, couldnt put the nose art on...ended up giving the model away....

The most aggravating kit that I have built was an AV-10 Bronco by Testors. Even with the nose loaded down with fishing sinkers the thing would not stay upright. It also had some fitting problems. In addition, I used some liquid masking film as an experiment with very poor results. Needless to say, it turned out to be a clunker. However, as the true cheap modeler that I am, I still put it in the display case :)

Hobbycraft's MS406, everything about that kit is just plain wrong.

The rear stabiliser supports, attach to the elevators! The rear stab's are totally the wrong shape, as is the fin. I ended filling all the engraved details with CA, sanding flat then, reshaping to somethine approaching the look of the real thing.

Loads of missing, or incorrectly placed panel lines, they even got the flap lines in the wrong place! The nose air intakes were molded solid, and there was no detail in the cockpit.

Definitely my worst ever build, but I did finish it.

Fujimi 1/72 BAe Hawk "Red Arrow" terrible fit in the wings, and sanding around all those hinge bulges in the wings on that tiny model—no pilot figure (made one out of tissue paper and super glue)—and the Censored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored] red plastic from which it was molded. Nearly drove me blind! Masking and painting were a major pain (all those hinge bulges!)

But I finished the sucker.

Somebody mentioned a Revell P-40B. Was that the old kit (circa 1970's I think). Mine was so bad I didn't even keep it for parts.Yuck [yuck]

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink

For me it had to have been a facum form kit of a Martin 404 airliner. More putty went into that thing then anything else I have done in aircraft building. I have a photo of the finished model somewhere but I couldn't find it. Looked okay when it was done but the hours involved getting it to that point was many. In fact I was to build the one kit, get approval on it and if they liked my work the Glen L Martin Aircraft Historical Society was to have me build 200 more. Yea right. I don't have a death wish. The cost I qouted was far beyond what they had in mind. I will keep looking for the photo and share it if I locate it. Vacum kits have their place in the hobby as that is the only way some planes can be had. I just wish they would think the kits out a little bit more. Heck some vacum kits are better if started from scratch...Gary

AMT's Ford 150 Lightning. Horrendious fit as is Revell's 69 Beetle. ESCI's Demag isn't far behind. Still one of the few kits I just trashed.

ICM P51C  1/48 Looks good on the spues... almost like Tamiya's offering.  But it ends there looks can be deceptive at times.

Revell B-26 1/48 Never mind that it the only kit in this scale it doesnt make make up for the fact that this is my all time favorite annoying kit.  And yes I will suffer through atleast 1 more build unless TamigawAM makes 1 soon but we all know that wont happen.

I feel bad mention this as it is a limited run but Czech Models are annoying also.  Not saying anymore as I like their line but...

For me I would have to say the 1/48 scale Monogram DO-335, nothing fit! That thing had more bondo and putty on it than my wifes car. Gave up on it and got the Tamyia one for $15 off the sale table at the LHS.

The only other kit that rivals this is the Halcyon Alien Warrior with egg. Built without filler, you can see complely through him. The skull is supposed to be a long smooth surface, but the seam required hours of filling and sanding and more filling and sanding to get smooth. Getting filler into the exoskeltal surfaces then sanding them was a Herculean task.

You mean this one?

Hmm...I didn't have any fit problems at all with mine (this one I built about 11 years ago). I only used a wee bit of the ol' Squadron Green on a few seams (mostly the one big seam around the egg, which you can still see a bit of.)
Just goes to show you the variance that can occur even with kits from the same molds!

Myself, I would have to say the DML 1/35 537 SCUD B TEL kit. Unlike usual Dragon fashion, there were so many fit problems with this kit that I had to strugle through most of it. FIrst, frame did not line up properly, then wheel mounting engineering left a lot to be desired. The upper body is split up into three major subassemblies, none of which lined up properly. All in all, I finished it a while ago. it was a beast, but one I loved. Unfortunately, an display shelf accident left the model in several tiny pieces. It was a recent disaster, but whatever, at least it's an excuse to get the kit again and do a better job of it this time around.
