Bought it....Built it.....(now what?)
Posted by cj95 on Saturday, February 25, 2006 5:24 PM

Been Back in the Moldeling game for about a year now, and slowly but surely my den is beenig taken over by completed kits.

I have a closet full of kits still in the boxes, but now I am starting to wonder where the heck am I going to put them all asuming I do finish them.

Any advice form the old timers.  What the heck do you do with all your completed kits?

Any photos of how you display them.....assuming you do?

You could always give them to a nephew or niece. Maybe you have some friends that have kids that would like to have a few? Most kids will enjoy them for awhile before they try to blow them up Big Smile [:D]

depending on the model (american armor or aircraft not anyone elses)you could donate the built ones to various vfw or other vet clubs

a lot of them will display them because they used the stuff in real life

AND the best part of that is you may get some interesting war stories and history out of those guys

You can always put together some kind of display cabinet.

I like the case idea, myself. I have a problem with the idea of spending $30-$100 on a kit, PE, resin sets and paint and decals just to hand it to a kid to blow up.

I build them so I can enjoy them. If they go anywhere it will be to a hobby shop or VFW. Someplace that will display them and enjoy them. Otherwise, they stay at home.

Nice case, BTW, Wayne!

Thanks, the wife has had her eye on it for years.  She thinks she can put it to better use.

are those just thumb tacks holding them up?

DURR: Yes those are thumb tacks and fishing line. I have been very lucky. Only a few have dropped over the years. (The Silver 1/48 B-24 came down once, thats why it is missing its ball turret). The B-29 came down once too, and the rear guns gave me a nasty cut on the back of my neck. Other than that they are trouble free. I try to dust them every six months. Have about 110 hanging up now.

I also have hideous shag carpeting that helps soften any falls.

I try not to think about repainting the ceiling if I move out.

Go to Lowes get concrete, 2x4's and some plywood.  Then add onto the house.  Actually I am thinking of buying a reasonablely priced (read "cheap") book case then making some "doors" out of Pelexi glass to cut down on dusting.

TAdan, wow, talk about an air traffic controllers nightmare.  My freind would probably have to go into therapy just looking at thos pics.Evil [}:)].  I may have to link this page to him.

Myself, I'm only building small stuff for now becuase I'm very limited on display space.  When the house is finished, I'll kick it into high gear and build something bigger than a 1/35 tank or 1/48 single engine fighter.  I've got about twenty large models that I can't build yet becuase there is nowhere to put em after completion.

I see she's already snuck in stuff on the top of the case (vase and doll).  Best keep an eye on it.  She could get sneaky about it.  Remove a plane, move in an item.  A couple weeks later, do it again.  Next thing you know all the planes will be gone.  It'll be like your very own Bermuda Triangle.  Wink [;)]

Sad [:(]

Oh man, you've got to keep your eye on that situation.  Before you know it, you'll lose a fine piece of furniture to her "girly" things.Wink [;)]

Actually what you could do is offer her the cabinet, let her do with it as she pleases - of course you have to properly store your models somewhere.  Then go and buy a bigger cabinet with even more space for more models (and it looks like your current cabinet has room for plenty more, but what the heck).  Put your models in your new cabinet and explain to your wife that you just wanted to make her happy by letting her put your old cabinet to "better" use.Smile [:)]

On second thought, perhaps you should just ignore all of that.  I'm not a lawyer, and I don't want to get you in trouble!
