yay, fun thread, i will join in too.

from what I know.

Tamiya would be Ta (like in TAr)- Mi (from ME) - Ya (from YeAH... lol, can't believe they end up being words...)  TA means field, and MIYA is something like a palace.

Hasegawa is Ha-Se (from SEction) - Ga (from GUArd) - Wa (from ...ever heard of WAWA's? there is this one convenience store next to my work...)

Wonder if they'd consider just going with "Hazy" and "Tami" as company names? ;-)

Having met and spoken to both Mr. Tamiya and Mr. Hasegawa on many occasions, I can confirm that the above is absolutely correct.

After the Japanese ones, you can mess around trying to get the Czech ones right!Wink [;)]

Smer (Smnyair) I haven't stuck that nifty accent mark over the e, but when you see an m immediately followed by an e with that accent mark, it creates a distinct "nyu" sound between the m and e sounds.

Bilek (Bee-lek).

Don't even get me started on the proper pronunciation of the full, proper name of Kopro.

Being, as I am, European, I've always worked off the typical European concept of emphasising the first syllable. Or at least, not emphasising the second. Thus, by coincidence, it seems that I've managed to get them correct, judging by the above posts.

Tamiya and Hasegawa are easy to pronounce, since the Japanese language only has 5 vowel sounds!

A - like the u in mud, but you have to open your mouth wider

E - like the e in get

U - like the oo in toot

I - like the ee in meet, but just a tad shorter

O - like the o in orange

So Tamiya is pronounced tum-EE-yuh

Hasegawa is huh-seh-GAH-wah

(The uppercase letters denote the stress.)

HA SE GA WA.

the romanji A is "Ah" in english language, not the short U sound.  i was taught by five japanese senseis for my minor in college and my mom and that's how they had said it.

A little OT, but does anyone but me find the Japanese language, when spoken by a female correctly, to be super sexy.

Geez, I wouldn't know! All the Japanese I've heard has been from male Japanese aikido instructors.

Still, Japanese women can be very alluring.

LOL...  now i am glad my mom hardly ever talks to me in japanese.  but the girls I got to know in college, which is rare too since a lot of the japanese kids all go back to japan for college after highschool, they were darn rite sexy even when they are not speaking.  and then taking it to another level, when they did speak, they had japanese anime girl voices!!!

I've always found japanese women extremely sexy and accomodating too. besides, they're not afraid to ask a guy out for a date.
