Burried somewhere in the forums is a thread on workbenches and model stashes. You should check it out.

I used to be in that situation. Now that I've been "retired," I actually do have a vague idea when I'll get around to them. Big Smile [:D]

Well my stash is rather modest (27 kits), but it should be enough to last me for some years do to my sloth-speed building. At the present I'm buying bargain kits on ebay. I find it fun and I have every intention of building the ones I get, so I am choosy about what I look for.

I'm with ya on the ebay thing. I'm fighting the urge to turn it on right now. I've already got five on the way just this week. And I'm watching two more.

I stopped counting at about 37, but have somewhere between 50 and 60 car models stashed away for myself, plus I have a bunch set aside for my son and daughter. There is still alot of cars we want to add to our collections, but we're holding off for now.

Right now I haven't been spending much time building, too busy with college and researching a new business and everything. But once things go back to normal, we'll be building together a little at night after homework, on rainy or cold snowy days (well, come next winter). Sometimes we even spend the entire weekend building since Mama works the weekends.

I probably have around 50 or so kits. I have pretty much stopped buying them because there aren't anymore I can honestly say I want! I have my 2 big ones I have been wanting, and just about all the F-18 models my little shelves will be able to handle! Now hopefully I can get some free time to actually finish a couple!

I've got hundreds of kits, mainly armor but also plenty of cars, planes, ships, figures, sci-fi and what ever else you can think of.

I've got just about 100 kits in the stash. Since I build +/- 5 kits a year (in a good year!) I can reach my retirement with this quantity...

I've got about 30 kits right now.  I've got a few new kits that I'm planning on adding, but I'm in no real hurry.  I hope to actually get a few of my in progress kits done and posted here before I make another kit purchase.  We'll see how that goes.

NOO, no mentioning of ebay...  = (  I have been good and been off of it for a month now.

I have lost count of my stash after constantly adding new ones from ebay this past half a year.  Let's just say it will take me the next 20 years to finish at moderate pace providing I don't get kids, yet Dragon is killing my plans!!!!  Then I will save more for retirement.   Half of these kits are already older than me...

I leave ebay to my dad.  He finds a gem for me every now and then, like my M998 ambulance and the old Revell HH-53C.  Trumpeter will be getting some of my money when the Stryker is releases, plus I want one of their LAVs.  If, at the end of the year, I've only added a half dozen kits to the stash, then I'll call it a victory over my styrene addiction.

Ryan, I used to frown upon ebay, until I started my addiction. hehe   I used to get so peeved at someone that sniped me (just happened last week) that I'd continually hunt down the item that I lost. I have nearly doubled the stash through ebay. How can I argue? I mean, I got them at half or less of the cost of retail in most cases. I know that I will build them too, so no loss. Ebay has been very good to me so far. I will buy most of my kits there from now on. Funny, but have you ever noticed that everone seems to want the same kit as you? Just an observation.

haha, always!  even if it's just some kit that I had watched till the last 5 minutes with no bids and then all of a sudden jumps from 99 cents to 15 or 20 bucks and then sometimes more than their average close price or buy-it-now prices on the site, like a still-in-production 1/12 tamiya bike that I just wanted to have to fill up my collection of them if I can get them for cheap before I eventually get to build them, cuz you know what happens to OOP kits that used to sell for 10 to 15 dollars (darn that Tamiya 1/20 McLaren M23!!!  The only one that I need, too...).

Until recently I've been purchasing Time Life's Civil War Series. It started out like $2-3 per book avg. with shipping, but now that I need the latter books in the series, you know, the ones nobody ordered because they already cancelled their subscriptions, the price has gone up to $8 or more with shipping.

Since I have most of the armor that I want right now, I've shifted to aircraft, landing a Tamiya Corsair for $7.50 and a Hasegawa KI-100 for a mere $12.65 with shipping. Yes, I'm getting that ebay bug again.

I have around 50 kits in the stash and I do plan to build them all. I have added a few from ebay. But I used money that I got from selling off some the kits that I might not had ever gotten around to. When buying from ebay I try to only use money that I got from selling on ebay. I am trying to stay away right now but I can't seem to do it. Mmmm what can I sell that the wife won't miss..mmm lol.

Anyway the other problem I have is space. Not sure where to put the ones when I get them built. Plus I have some pretty big models like B-17, B24, B25s, B29, C47 that I have no idea where I am going to put once I have them built. So those may just stay in the stash for a while until I figure out that little tibit.

this subject comes up alot, i love these posts for two reasons,

1 it gives newbees to the forum a view of the older members

2 it gives older members an idea of where their fellow members stand in their quest to increase or decrease (build) their stash

i have about 500 now  and all i buy now is a.m. decal, parts, and of course paints

(until revell releases the 1/72 scale condor this summer)

I only have a small stash. Just three.

{Cheering up a bit}

But I plan to do great things with it. Yeah!

/\ Big Smile [:D] All great things have to start somewhere.

I dunno about all you ebay proponents. I used to do it a lot, then I realized all the money I was saving went to the delivery costs. Didn't really save me too much. Especially not on any big or new kits. I went back recently, and its just as convoluted as ever. I was lucky to find some deals on kits that were completely off their sprues. They'll be a fun build though, but the price was right. However, in the span of two years, not counting that, i've only ever found one or two killer deals.

Hi all,

As noted before, these threads pop up pretty frequently. With that in mind, I decided to actually keep track of my stash in a text file. I've also decided to not buy any more kits until these are done. So far, I've stuck to that resolution -- however, I've bought modeling tools as I've needed them...and supplies... and paint.

My stash (sorted by scale and subject):

What I'm working on currently:
1/64 scale wooden Brig Lexington using a semi-kit from The Lumberyard (more info here)
This is a long-term project, however, and I may takes breaks from it to build a plane or two.

In the stash (most of these were gifts!):

Revell 1/144 scale B-52G

Revell 1/72 Yak-38
Roden 1/72 Fokker D.7 (Alb.-built, early), with a Part PE set
Roden 1/72 Bristol F2.b with a Part PE set
Fujimi 1/72 F-14D Tomcat
Revell 1/72 F-14D Tomcat
ESCI 1/72 F4C National Guard Phantom
Meikraft 1/72 Piper L-4 Cub (you can see an example built by another modeler here)
--I started this one years ago and didn't do the best job with it. It's a pretty rough kit to
begin with and it may get culled from the collection.

DML 1/48 Spad 13
Monogram 1/48 P-61
Monogram 1/48 P-38
Monogram 1/48 OS2U Kingfisher
Monogram 1/48 Grumman F9F Panther
Monogram 1/48 Spitfire IX
Monogram 1/48 Stuka Ju 87G-1

Revell 1/32 P-38 -- Started by someone else years ago. Some parts glued together,
     but nothing is painted.

Testors/Italeri 1/35 Panzer H

AMT Millennium Falcon

Airfix 1/600 H.M.S. Hotspur
Revel Germany 1/1,200 U.S.S. Hornet
Monogram 1/800 U.S.S. Nimitz

Total: 21

-Drew

You probably won't believe this but I try and buy models as I build them.

I only have 2 in the stash...1/35 Panther and a 1/72 Spitfire.

I have around 160 - 180 kits in my stash, mainly RAAF aircraft in 1/48 or 1/35 armour (WWII German/post war russian).

I put all of my kits and accesories on a data base with how much I paid for them and the retail price so I had a rough idea of how much I had spent on them and what they are worth. I won't be telling my wife to be (two weeks till the wedding) quite how much they are worth tho.Big Smile [:D]

Yea I did the same with my kits but didn't put a price down so my spending wouldn't get exposed if my girlfriend stumbles upon the file, and at the same time i wouldn't feel too sad if the price does drop years later even though i still don't get to the kit with my slow progress.  Best advice, keep a log in password on the computer for you and her on separate accounts or just each keep their own computers/laptops.  =P

Nonetheless, here is an early congrats to the soon-to-be-newly-wed/chained down/whipped!

I'm not really sure how many kits I've got waiting.  I had over 80 the last time I counted.  I'm betting it's closer to a hundred now.

Not sure how many I total in my stash now, as many are on their way to Canada.

Good for you!

About half my stash consists of gifts from thoughful family members. But that still means that I've bought more than I could build. I haven't bought any kits for two years now, though. And I won't buy one again until most of my stash is built.
