Amen.  I liked the fact that Indiana had sufficient imagination to not require changing the clocks twice a year.  Thank you to our ever so ingenious governor.  Hey, I voted for the guy, but this is plain silly.  On the plus side, I can now play a full 18 holes after work..

Actually, it's been this weekend for a while, as I have to remind the club (or they me) that it starts the day of our contest.

I'm sorry to disagree, but if you still have a last years calender you will see that it was the first Sunday in May as its been since it's started..President Bush signed this into effect starting This year to help cut the cost of electricty bills ...."RC"

And "Following the war, states and municipalities were allowed to observe DST at their discretion. This created a great deal of confusion for the broadcasting industry and for many transportation companies because DST was not observed uniformly. Therefore, Congress enacted the Uniform Time Act in 1966. The law simply states that if DST is going to be observed, it must be done in a uniform manner. The Act established the beginning of DST as the last Sunday in April and the end of DST as the last Sunday of October. In 1986, an amendment (Public Law 99-359) to the Act changed the beginning date to the first Sunday in April. "

The way they were intended? By whom? The measure of time is an artificial contruct. That there are 24 hours in a day comes from some Egyptian or Babylonian dividing the day into 24 as opposed to 12, or 8 or 563 or a thousand equal parts. http://homepage.mac.com/pete.boardman/24hourclock/history.html

Actually, DST is being done to save energy for all of us. People coming home from work dont have to turn the lights on as soon and can do things outside much longer. Traditionally, one of the reasons it was done was so kids wouldn't be walking to school in the dark. As someone who HAS lived with it 56 years, there's nothing cooler than those long summer evenings where twilight goes on forever. Two years ago, when I went to Phoenix for the IPMS National, it was quite weird to go from 8:30 sunsets to 7:30 sunsets over ngiht.
