Definitely ask the contest director for a ruling but Robert is mostly correct.  He said nothing can be scratch built but I believe that if you use plastic from the box… stretched sprue, modify an extra part, etc. that should be allowed.  I am doing exactly that on a P-59 for the OOB 1st Jets GB.  CLICK HERE

*SIGH* Yeah, I was afraid of that. I will, however, contact, Gil Hodges at First Coast to verify. Thanks for your prompt reply.

Cheers!

Eric,

I would suggest you e-mail the contest director at IPMS First Coast (hosts) for a correct ruling. Their web site and links to JAXCON are both available through the IPMS/USA website.

In general, the answer would be, no. Regardless of the reasons, adding any scratch-built or additional components beyond what's provided in the kit will push the entry out of eligibility for OOTB. There are a few execptions in the IPMS rules (simple tape seatbelts, various antennae, etc.), but I think yours may be outside this guidance. Since every contest is allowed to have their own rules and even modifications to the IPMS National rules, the host club is really the best source to answer your question.

Hope this helps...

OOB Comp Question...
Posted by Abdiel on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 12:11 PM

So, I'm finally going to enter a model into a comp. I'm going to Jaxcon next month and I've run into a problem with the OOB kit I'd like to use. It's a 1/72 scale Jagdpanther by Dragon. Here's the problem: I broke a couple of tiny pieces while constructing it, the machine gun (which is lost) and cables (which broke in several places). My question is: Can I replace those parts with a piece of syringe and copper wire and still place it in the OOB category?

Thanks,

Eric
