Brush painting

I don't use an airbrush, but would like more info on paints, & painting.  Even though I wash the plastic parts they still repel the paint. Also, how do you get that nice silver color on aircrat other than using the regular silver paint?

I just finished the first color on an F-15.  I was unable to get my airbrush working, and to make the end of the GB, I needed to paint the plane somehow.

The colors that I needed I found thru Poli-Scale.  The first time that I have brush painted a aircraft and get the result that I did! Smile [:)]  I got almost the end result that I would have gotten with the airbrush! Big Smile [:D]  The way I did that was to use brush strokes in one direction only, and went over the area several times.  AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE PLASTIC REPELING THE PAINT!! Big Smile [:D] Thumbs Up [tup]  I too have had that problem before using Tamiya or Testors Arcyrlic paints.  The oil based paints I have also had some of that as well.  After this experience, I think I'll be using Pol-Scale more often! Big Smile [:D]

The silver color that you ask about; I have used some of Testors spray cans that are specificly colored towards a metal (steel, aluminim, etc.), or you can use a Bare Foil material (I have never used it, but many have).  Check both out at your hobby shop in the paint area.

Tony,
Did you wash the parts with a dish detergent and rinse well first?
You can also try what I do...
I wet sand the big body parts with anywhere from #320 to #800 grit, rinse and dry well.
I also wipe down all parts just prior to painting with alchohol.
No problem with the paint repelling.

My 2 cents [2c]

the silver NMF color can, quite farnkly, not be gotten without an airbrush. (Well maybe a rattle can could do it, but not bursh painting).

For brush painting, use thin coats, and sand down with very very fine sand paper in between coats.

Tamiya and Gunze acrylic paints don't brush on very well. I usually airbrush these, but its hard when you want to touch up with a brush.

I get better results if I paint sober.
