How do we
Posted by MackP on Saturday, May 13, 2006 9:11 PM
convince manufacturers to market plastic 1:350, or larger, Sumner/Gearing tincans (circa late 1950s--pre Fram) and Essex class carriers of the same vintage (angle decks, hurricane bows, etc.).  There are thousands of us still around who served on those ships.  We're getting old and maybe don't have scratchbuilding skills but would love to have a replica of our old ships. And we keep seeing companies announce new models of obscure ships most of us have never heard of.
What will it take to convince someone that there's a ready market for those models. We are, for the most part, retired and have time on our hands and a few dollars to spare.  Come on, someone!

Mack - this came up about a yr ago when I was lamenting the decom/sinking of the USS Guam here (one of the ships I was on) .. we all had a good talk/crying in our beer about all the stuff we would love to see modeled that was dear to us.  The only amphib available from my time period is the USS Austin in 1/700, maybe the USS Lamoure County too, I can't remember.

I was urged to contact one of the people at Turmpeter with the suggestion of more amphib kits in a bigger scale, and the guy told me if I would send him a copy of the plans for the Guam he would look into it and get back with me.  Sadly I've procrastinated since then and it's still just an idea in my head.  I'll see if I can find his email for you and send it to you...

You just gotta promise to include the USS Guam, in addition to the ships you want modeled in your list to him,  Wink [;)]

-=edit=-

I went back and read the thread that we were talking about this in Mack and saw you had jumped in there at one point.  Here is the email for the guy I was talking to at Trumpeter:  88wxl@trumpeter-china.com

If it is no longer valid then wenyu@trumpeter-china.com might work for you...
