Missle/Bomb Painting

Personally I am not a fan of ordinance under an a/c but I have read many times here that using the little rubber bands used for braces are very handy in masking off the bands on bombs and missiles.  Just in case... I asked my daughters Orthodontist for some and he gave me about 15 packs of different sizes.  So if I ever do hang a bomb... I am ready.

Painting should be treated like any other part of the a/c.  When weathering, ordinance should generally be cleaner than the plane

Most of the stripes come as decals now. There are a couple of aftermarket decal sheets that are just missle markings. As far as the nose cones, I some times paint the nose first, mask it off with tape, then paint the body. Or I may go the exact opposite. It depends on which weapon I am painting.

Base coat the bomb.

Cut 2 holes in a piece of card stock that will accomodate the taper of the bomb or missile. 1 larger than the other.

The first hole (the larger) will have the nose of the bomb inserted into it so that it makes a snug fit. Turn the card over and paint the stripe or nose color. If you are going to paint the stripe, then take your bomb and insert it into the second (smaller) hole and spray your base color.
