Is ist just me?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 7:04 PM

I have not posted on Finescale in a while...or modelled, for that matter. I am now getting to thinking and I believe it is because of this nice summer weather. Here, in Canada weather can reach up to 30 degrees celsius (I think that is about 80 or 90 Yankee-Speak). I would rather go toss around a football or go out in general rather than sit and inhale glue fumes and try to get my damn airbrush to work.

People may read this and say, "Well obviously you really don't like modelling then." I love modelling as much as the next guy.

Anyone else agree with me (or disagree)?

No it's not just you, I've been extra lazy for a year now. It started last year when my father was ill and he eventually passed away. I've been dragging my feet since. I don't want to start any more kits until I get some of my in progress ones done. Now it's summer and I've been stuck out in the yard fighting a hopeless battle against weeds. Apathy reigns. This is my favorite time to model too. I need to get into gear.

i agree in theory, just backwards,,,,here in the south east it's been 95-100F and because of the constant 90-100% humidity the heat index is anywhere between 105-115.....i work outside during the day so nights and all day weekends i try to stay inside if at all possible,,,,,around the end of October i'll consider doing things outside

Well, you keep talking like that, you're going to get unfrocked! Laugh [(-D]
You mean we don't all resemble toxic 'shrooms? Shock [:O]

Seriously, I agree. What's really frustrating is that I had a serious injury in April, and I haven't gotten any wheel time since. Normally by this time, I'd be doing two ten mile sprints and a twenty to forty mile extended ride every week. Just yesterday, I managed to get the bikes ready for the road.Angry [:(!]

You fellows in SC and MO have my sympathy. I've lived in SC (I hated the winters more than the summers.) and I've visited MO in the summer, when it truly is a state of Misery!

I'm the same way, I would rather go play catch or go fishing than sit in a room with the tv on in the summer. The winter months are great for modeling, cause who wants to go outside in that crap Big Smile [:D]

With me it's a combination of getting motivated and fighting procrastination along with all of my trials of trying to learn airbrushing. Here west of Phoenix with 100 plus degrees, the thought of playing outside doesn't last long and at this time I'm unable to use my pool until my foot heals completely due to a surgery, Then the thought of watching a movie on my 72" DLP HD tv takes over and then oh well..........I'll get to it when I get to it........

I wonder how long it would take a model to melt away if left out on a sidewalk.  Evil [}:)]

Its has already got hot here in Dallas so I do most of my building at nite in the shop, but it still takes time to cool that down with my small window unit.So in the end there is not much building getting done around my place.

I'm with the other southern US modelers. Here in Florida, summer is prime modeling season and means I can enjoy the air conditioning. Overall, my modeling time doesn't vary much regardless of the season, but during the summer, I'm indoors as much as possible.

Yup, I'm no different. Nota thing done on the two projects in a month or two now. Too much time outside enjoying the weather, coaching my kids baseball, watching the wife in the gardenOops [oops]Wink [;)] and cracking a cold one on the patio(a pathetic concrete blockAngry [:(!]) I know several others that are the same also. I do pray for a rainy weekend though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like to model in the evenings after getting off work, cleaning up, having dinner and doing dishes. Sometimes I'll listen to music or work the occasional crossword puzzle instead. On my days off, I'll try to get it at least one modeling session somewhere along the line. I keep a diary of my modeling activities and I usually average between ten and fifteen modeling sessions a month.

I even have a little workbench so I can model outside. Here in Phoenix, it's much too hot to do so now, but come October, November, even early December, it will be terrific.

Same here except it works the opposite, it rains those months and forces you indoors. I will be hunkering down and getting some work done then.

I always tend to spend less time modelling in the summer months. And as you said, having frigid Canadian winters is all the more incentive to get out now that we have great weather outside.

I haven't even opened a new kit since I got my last one done, that was over a month ago!!! Shock [:O] I have been bicycling with my daughter and sister and her kid every other day after work, sometimes every night, its been nice to be out doing something healthy and fun, but I really don't remeber bicycle seats being so darn painful in all those places Dead [xx(]

I model a bit less in the summer too.  Especially now that I own a house - all those outside chores stack up on top of inside chores.  Then there's long motorcycle rides, camping and fishing trips, the weekly Farmers' Markets etc etc

Of course fall brings football season... after that comes skiing season.... so I guess you could say I'm slow year round.  One of the pitfalls of being such a renaissance man, I guessLaugh [(-D]

Lately it has been yard work.  I set on my behind yesterday just going around in circles for over five hours.  It was on a riding lawn mower and I cut the whole 2 1/2 acres.

On weekends my wife and I head out to our camper and get away from everything.  The fishing lately has been bad due to lack of rain.  Next weekend I will be putting my boat in the water for the first time in about two years.  We plan on going out into the gulf about ten to twenty miles off shore and do some fishing.

I have also been busy with my flying.  I have completed phase two and about 1/3 through phase three.  I should be re certified by the middle or end of August.

I did start on one model for a group build.  I opened the box.  Big Smile [:D]  Now I have to start painting it.

I agree, especially when my modeling room is 90 degrees; I'd just rather go swimming. But at night when it cools down I like to sit down and get some building in.
