Hobby Shops in Tulsa and Norman Ok
Posted by Dave23 on Monday, July 10, 2006 12:51 PM

A question for those familiar with these two cities -

Years ago when I was into model building there were a number of local hobby shops in these areas that I would frequent. Now, after a 10+ year absence, it seems that most are gone. I basically visit the Hobby Lobby’s, the Hobbytowns and one LHS in Tulsa called Action Hobbies (I guess this one is local, may not be for all I know). With all the recent discussions of local shops in other areas, I've started wondering if maybe there are some shops that I'm not aware of in the cities I frequent that I need to check out.

Anyone know of  any?

Since I do a lot of RC, I usually go to Wings n Things on South Peoria Ave.  They also carry a fair selection of plastic and scratchbuilding supplies.

Someone told me Wings-n-Things had closed, so I haven't bothered to drive over there. Good to know they are still in business, I'll drop in on my next trip to Tulsa.

I was just in Tulsa yesterday but didn't drive by.  I did call their number and it was disconnected.  Their website is still up.  I'm afraid that you might be right and that they have indeed closed.

The only ones I know about would be Hobby Town and Hobby Lobby.  I live about an hour east of Norman.  If you like here is the link to the club I belong to in Norman...

We meet on the first and third Friday of each month at 7pm at the Norman Hobby Town.  Somebody there should know of some more shops.  Drop by on the 21st, we will be having a Round Table discussion.

Hey Henry, man I would love to drop by, but unfortunately I live an hour and a half or so away. I'm in Norman to visit my son and his family fairly often and that's when I stop by the Hobbytown.

Wish I did live close enough to either Norman or Tulsa to join one of the local clubs, but I'm stuck out in the middle of nowhere.

Hi dave

Where do you live?  I'm guessing that you are between Norman and Tulsa.  I live about a mile east of Seminole, right off Hwy 9.

Hi Henry,

I'm in McAlester, southeast of you. When I go to Norman, I usually take Indian Nation north to Hwy 9 (Dustin exit) then head west, so I pass through Seminole quite often. Trip before last I ran into that big tar & chip road project running from the west of Dustin to almost Seminole, so I'll be taking 270 up through Holdenville to Seminole until that settles down.

Tulsa is about an hour and a half drive for me, Norman is closer to two.

Any hobby shops around your area Henry? I'm not that familiar with Seminole, Shawnee or Tecumseh.

Hi Dave.

Unfortunately, the closest thing is the model section at Wal-mart.  I do a lot of mail order with Squadron, and the Hobbytown in Norman.  There was a rumor of a Hobby Lobby going in the old Walmart in the Shawnee mall, but Old Navy got it.  There is an RC shop somewhere in Shawnee, my brother in law said they laughed at him when he asked about model kits.

Man I wish we had a LHS here, but such is life.
