How do freezing temperatures affect modeling supplies?
Posted by djrost_2000 on Thursday, July 13, 2006 12:43 AM
Power went out in the winter and Testors plastic cement, Microset, Microsol and 5-minute epoxy got left in the basement with freezing temps.  I knew the paints would go and I managed to save them, just wondering if the above mentioned items might still be good or are they gone?

Thanks,

Dave

I guess you would have to have a good look at them and see if they were affected....

The Epoxy and cement should be ok as long as the caps integrity was maintained.  I've had that sort of thing survive.  Anything in a spray can needs checked.  Sometimes they make it through, sometimes not.

The chances of any of your supplies being good to use is directly proportional to the amount of time/money spent on the model.
The stuff will be great on say an old scrap of plastic to test but ruin the one you have desires to show.
When in doubt toss it.

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

Most of those are relatively simple, chemically, and are probably okay. The epoxy may not be—mix some and see how it performs.

If the others look milky or something has settled out, toss them.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink
