Does anyone insure their models or dioramas?
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Friday, July 14, 2006 1:10 PM

I got to thinking about this.  By the time I'm done with the dio I'm working on, I figure counting parts, kits, and labor I'd have probably $500 built into it.  I want to loan it to my work to display in the service dept, as it's a dio of a couple of service bays, including mine when I was a mechanic.   If a little kid knocked it over or something else happened, how could I protect against that?  It would be in a display case built for it, but I still worry about it.   Would I need to get special insurance to cover it, or is it even possible to get such?  Just something I was thinking about.   Comments?

First consult with your homeowners/renters insurance agent.

Be advised that the time you invested can not be indemnified.  however, the kit, dio material and assorted other material to replace can be covered by a policy.

I'm surprised that it would be worth the deductable, if it even applies. Wish I could help.

Hey Chris, that's a nice idea... bringing in a dio that you built to your job for display.

As far as homeowners/renters insurance, well don't try to get the model & dio covered. You mention that you were a mechanic, instead you brought some tools to work.  Wink [;)]

I would also discuss your concerns with the manager or better yet, the owner if he's around. You could have them display it in a safe manner and with luck, cover it under their policy as they would any mechanics tools in the shop.

Good luck   Thumbs Up [tup]

the only problem i can see with the idea

is you put in a claim and you will be paying higher rates for it (this depends on the state laws of course) and in most cases the deductable for  most home ins. is at least $500 so  it may work out to be a no win
