Calling anyone who ordered from Squadron
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, July 30, 2006 8:40 PM
How long does it take to recieve a item?? 4-10 days is what my automatic email said, but some guys in a chat room said 2-4 weeks. I used USPS bacause the other option said only for United States.

I am worried because we are moving at the end of August.

Thanks, Anthony.

Relax.
If you do not get it by the end of August something is seriously wrong!!
Look for it by the middle of August if not much sooner.

I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it.

If I place an order during the weekend, I normally get it by Friday. They use UPS or Fedex. A week to 10 days is not out of the ordinary within the USA. I would imagine the biggest hold up for you would be the Canadian customs. I hear all sorts of horror stories regarding the duties they charge.

To clarify, the horror stories I hear are regarding merchants from the US sending to private citizens in Canada. I don't think I've heard of any difficulties of an individual sending to a private citizen in Canada. Often a modeler in the US sends to a Canadian declaring the kit a gift. Squadron sends it as retail merchandise.

Squadron to Canada can take a long time. It's not Squadron's fault but Canada Customs. My last package from them took the 4 weeks. If it doesn't arrive before the end of August, I am sure that your parents will be getting the mail forwarded from the old addressto the new. It's the standard thing to do when moving.

edit Rob is quite right, if the goods are over a certain amount (what that is I don't know, but I assume it's quite small) the Postman will have his hand out at the door to collect duty. The above package was worth $80 CDN and I was dinged an additional $14 and change at the door. /edit

So long folks!

Oh yeah, gotta love those Candaian customs nazis ... especially when they remove things from packages that they don't think the Canadian recipient should have. And don't tell me that doesn't happen, my marvelous coiled-rubbber-snake-in-the-box prank was completely ruined by those humorless thugs. Sad [:(]

I'm very lucky to have about four hobby shops in my area. One that sells cheaper than any online shop. But when I do order online I've always used Squadron. First used them around 1985 I think. Never, ever had any problems. My order always reaches me in about four or five working days. Always. I'm talking in the US though.
I consider them tobe the cheapest I've used too. Others might have cheaper prices but when you add shipping..their charges a very high.

You should try sending audio gear, or even recorded music, to someone in Canada. I do, with some regularity. Can take 2 to 4 weeks to process through. Same thing when they send me something. I guess the electronics slows it down, but I don't get why CD's should take so long.

They're having a tough time playing the CD backwards to hear the Pro-American/Satanic chants...

Having personal experience waiting for a package from Squadron that was almost 2 weeks in Customs, I can hardly be wrong, It happened and is a fact. I am pleasently pleased to see that my warning about how long it can take was not necessary...

So long folks!

Why would they hold something for two weeks? That’s crazy! Not that I am doubting you, but just asking, I have had it happen with other places, but it just bothers me they would keep it so long.

That's Canada Customs for you. They did the same thing with a package from Great Models. My guess is a fairly light weight but large box must appear fearsome so they wait a long time before opening it and checking it out.

It has soured my online shopping. I'm going to try a couple of places out in Canada and see if they're any better.

DrewH told me about a great model shop in Vancouver, that has more models then I've ever seen in a hobby shop. It's five hours away by car, so I won't be popping in too often, but he stocks an amazing amount of kits and AM parts. I can order by fax and he will put on the bus which is usually overnight. I'll have to check it out.

So long folks!

Anthony  My last order from Squadron took 6 weeks to get here & the package arrived flattened with "Damaged Package Canada Customs" tape holding it together.  Luky for me it was a bunch of PE sets and Decals so flatenned box was not an issue.  To add to the truth is stranger than fiction my previous order took a week and a half to arrive go figure.  I'm glad to see yours arrived in a prompt fashion.  All this to say orders going through Canada Customs is a crap shoot.

Cheers

I've ordered models quite a few times from hong kong and the custom has hold my package only once and it took only two days more than it was supposed to.  And only that time I had to pay extra duties.  But twice, the boxes were crushed.  The models were ok but the boxes looked terrible.  I guess I've been lucky.
No matter where you go ....... there you are.

*chuckles at Anthony14 * Don't you know, mate? Canadian Customs is protecting YOU, from ... ummm ... what was the Threat Of The Week again?

And eizzle, yes, Canadians as a whole are some of the nicest, most good humored people you could ever hope to meet. I have some great friends in Canada. None of them, however, work for the government, and by that I include Customs, RCMP and their national health plan. Don't get me started ...

Don't take that wrong mfsob. I have met many fine folks from Canada and most all have been very nice people. I'm sure its not that much diffrent than here, lots of nice people, but the few horses a** ruin it for everybody (Canadian Customs it sounds likeBig Smile [:D]) I don't want anybody to take any offense to that, it was only a joke... well, BGrigg can, that won't bother meWink [;)], but it was a joke to everybody else!
