The Proverbial White Whale

I'm waiting for one of my white whales as we speak.

Ever since I heard about it a few of years ago, the Streem 1/72 Sukhoi SU-24 Fencer has been at the top of my want list. Its the only reliably accurate model of the Fencer out there and quite difficult to get. I though I might find myself lucky when I moved to the Czech Republic as its closer to Russia, where Streem is from, and so shops here might have a better chance to have the kit; not so.

Anyway, very recently on another forum, I struck a swap deal with a fellow modeler in Britain who had an extra one of the kit.

In a round about way I managed to get another of my long time wants very recently: a 1/72 Hawker Tempest Mk.II. I was on the lookout for Matchbox's old kit as it had the Mk.II option and I didn't want to mess around finding a conversion set but I was having no luck finding it. One day not so long ago I went into my LHS to find they had recieved their latest MPM delivery and it included the new Special Hobby Tempest Mk.II. Needless to say, I snapped it up on the spot.

Mine was the T92, a light, air droppable tank that was to replace the M41 Walker Bulldog. Only two prototypes were made, and only two models of the tank were issued. One in 1/24 scale by ITC/Ringo and a 1/48-1/40 scale version made by Hawk/Tamiya. I've had the 1/24 one for quite some time and recently found the Hawk/Tamiya one for a whopping $13 at my local hobby shop.

The T92 project was cancelled when the Soviet PT-76 light tank was discovered to be amphibious. Not to be outdone, the US had to scrap the T92 for an amphibious light tank that eventually became the M551A1 Sheridan.

  Went to a couple of LHS's over the weekend.  One had a bunch of old Hasegawa kits.  I got a 1/72  A6A for $15 including tax.  He had a 1/48 Monogram kingfisher from th 60's in the original box.  I may have to go back.

 Honestly, I can't really think of one. There are many kits out there that I want, but specifically, I couldn't say.

I've actually harpooned my White Whale, and am in the process of cutting it up making it more "presentable" as we speak.  Coincidentally, it was more of a "White Elephant" in real life.  I'm talking about my 1/72 Spruce Goose.  For the longest time I wanted one, and only recently realized one existed.  There was a breif, but rather eventful chase to grab me one, and in the end, I prevailed.

Of course, BUILDING it?  It's fought me every step of the way.... 

For a while it was the 1/48 PBY-5.  I finally bagged that one a few months ago though. 

While it's not a particularly rare kit, I can't seem to ever run across one of the 1/48 SR-71's at the right time. 

The one I'm really wanting though is the original 1/48 AC-130 with the full interior. 

Babylon 5 capital ships.

 So far i've only seen models of several fighters, and precious few capital ship models all of which are quite tiney.

I've basicly given up on searching for models as the tv series has long since been over. But when i settle down somewhere for a few years and have enough time, i'll start scratch building them.  But it would be really nice to have a few good size and detailed models of the caps.

mine would have to be an old boxed diorama of a WWII scene,i think it may have been made by MPC,but i'm not sure

i do know the box was blue and it was Americans and Germans,,a couple of small tanks ,lots of soldier and a few burned out buildings

it's hard to look for it when i don't remember enough about it
