Get those sprue cutters!!
Sprue cutters, sprue cutters, sprue cutters, sprue cutters
and again I say-------------------SPRUE CUTTERS!!!!!!
I only have four pairs of them. They only cost about 7 USD if you pay full retain and cheaper if you have a hobby lobby internet coupon.

Two words: Wire cutters...
My mother gave me a good pair years ago,and to this day, they are the first tool I consider when I remove something from a sprue.
Mind you, I was not always so fortunate in my choices, and I DO have scars to show for my poor decisions...

OOHHH my friend had that happen to him with a chisel blade. He was removing a figure's base and then SNAP. the workstation was covered in blood (exaggeration obviously). A gash in his pinky 1/4 inch long and about 1/8 in. He came back from the bathroom and yelled "Why did you not screw the blade on tight?!?!" and I showed him the blood covered blade and the knife in two pieces and his eyes almost popped outta their sockets.
He wrapped his pinky tightly in some bandages and didn't need to get stitches.
BTW, those were the cheap Testors blades that you can get in a set for 18 dollars. Thats why I always pay a couple bucks extra for Xacto blades.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Glad to hear that you didnt get injured any worse , you must have been pushing on the blade pretty hard , i've never had that happen . Try using a sprue/ parts nipper like zuron makes ( i just looked at it and it says to wear safety glasses )
Good luck !

invest in a good set of sprue cutters,,they quickly pay for them selves with better cuts and accuracy,,,plus as you found out, they're much safer..
thank god nothing happened,maybe it's a sign
