I just don't get it!?

In some cases, it may be people trying not to reinforce what they see as a waste of time, childish hobby, playing with toy planes/soldiers/tanks/cars. Others might not be comfortable with e-commerce or mail order. Others may just give you stuff they have convinced themselves you must want because they thought it was cool.

Stuff like that just makes the stress levels insane! Roll with it and enjoy Christmas/Chanukka/Yule/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice/Saturanlia/Samhain/Dong zhi/Modranec/Yalda/Festival of the Unconquered Sun/HumanLight/Boxing Day/Karachun/Inti Raymi/Soyal or whatever Midwinter Feast you choose.

For me, they know that my main interest is modeling but they wont get to my "not so local hobby shop" cause it is 100 miles from their homes and they are not in the e-commerce at all.  They do not have any computer actually.  So they got it solved by giving me money.  And I can tell you it will be spent in modeling stuff.

My wife is pretty unimaginative so I'm easy. I gave her the latest Squadron flyer and marked about 14 kits. I told her it takes about 4 days to ship and that orders over $100 receive free shipping. She asked for the credit card, so...........

Last year my darling daughter bought me a double action airbrush for christmas and a couple of Star Wars kits to build for her. Life is good!! My baby.

I could tell me wife to get me some models for Xmas or my birthday and make a list for her and get a map for her to the hobby shop and I end up with everything but models

It just makes you want to say Hmmmmmmmmmmm

My wife is great about it; though she doesn't know or buy the specifics, she will get (or tell her family to get) the side stuff. Last year she got me a great desk lamp and got her father to get me a cordless Dremel. BAM!! Two direct hits. All I gotta do is point it out when we are shopping for others. She leaves the models, glue, dio stuff to me.

This is the exact same system my wife and I use and it has worked flawlessly for the last 10 years. We also give a single "surprise" item to each other so there's still some of that "unwrapping the box" mystery. Since we don't have children, we don't even bother with a Christmas tree (cats would have a field day) or lights/decorations (1st year we had our new house we kept shorting out the breakers).

I'm so lucky, my wife really pays attention to what I like and is really supportive of all my hobbies and interests.  She gets me great books, kits, guitar stuff.  It really helps that my local hobby store (High Sierra) has a notebook up front where I can list all the kits that are on my wish list. 

My family asks my wife what I would like for Christmas every year. My wife gives them a few ideas but always tells them that if they do not want to go shopping and find something for me that they can just go to one of my local hobby shops and get a gift certificate for me. Out of both sides of my family I usually get $50 worth of gift certificates.

Even though everyone in my family knows I'd love another model kit...they always end up giving me something else

My wife askes me "What would you like for Christmas...except for models!" To be fair though, she always buys me a kit for my birthday so 1 out of 2 ain't bad.
