I don't listen to music at all when modeling. Too much of a distraction, especially when I'm playing one of my all-time favorites.

I listen to a lot of Jazz, blues, classic rock, and everything else.

Right now, my 6 CD changer has Zappa, Miles Davis, Jethro Tull (Sorry Steve), King Crimson, Primus, and Ramsey Lewis.   (I TOLD you I listen to everything.)

I find that the music can change from job to job.  Jazz, and really progressive stuff for fine detail work.  Country for sanding, grinding, etc...  Hard rock for assembly, and when you need to hear the music over the Dremel tool, or air compressor.  Sometimes Classical or Opera for fine detail work, and trimming decals.

And    Black Sabbath's "War Pigs"  for the final stages of decal and detail work when you are ready to hold the almost completed model over your desk while making "Boom Boom" noises... Shock [:O] (Admit it, everybody does this at least once)

I'm a Beatles man. Also, the digital tv station tuned into for classic rock, although they play FAR too much Jethro Tull. And I mean one song is too much, but they play one an hour. Does anybody actually even like that band anymore?

On Wednesdays, I have a day off and pretty much just throw on the Military Channel. "Go behind the lines".

Depends on what I'm building. I never really thought about the "why" aspect until now, but the era of kit I'm working with often matches the era/genre of music I play. WWII=Jazz/Big Band, Cold War era=Rockabilly thru Psychedalic, ect. That was a good question you posed; the ongoing process/experience is what I am into. Which explains why I have a hard time finding closure sometimes ("...maybe I should add a..."). Music simply becomes the soundtrack. Anything distracting though, is...uh...distracting. Don't distract me from my number one distraction!

The workbench shares the extra bedroom with the computer, so I just put ITunes on - between my CD collection I transferred and the guy who built my computer for me, who put his collection on, I've got almost 5500 songs....

No TV in the model room, though I may change that when I move again.  Would be nice to watch some sports or history channel while I tinker... of course then I might as well not have a living room...

That will all be coming to an end in April, though.  They are switching to A-10s!!!!!  I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!  My youngest son is one of the "Crew Dogs" and I'm gonna have a field day!!!!!

TV is the kryptonite of modeling for me... I usually get so carried away with the program that I end up getting nothing done.

I usually listen to my iPod, and I just shuffle songs on there, but mostly its Rammstein and System of a Down Big Smile [:D]

Same here...

I generally have the TV tuned to the History Channel, Sci-Fi Channel, or have a DVD running with something like Century of Warfare, Kelly's Heroes, or Saving Private Ryan. Once in a very great while I'll put on some music, but it's usually a CD with stuff from the '60's, '70's, or '80's.
