I agree with bilbirk, I did a non-scientific test order one time using Great Models and Squadron. I ordered several items from GM, all listed as "in stock". The prices were slightly lower than Squadron's and if I received everything I ordered, I would have saved about $5-7 total. Their shipping was a little higher, but not by much. Maybe a buck or two.

Of course the order took a while (about a month) and even though I only ordered items listed as "in stock" on the website, I only received about half of the items. I ordered the items I did not receive from Squadron. I received them in about a week.

I did a quick calculation and if I had placed the entire order with Squadron, I would have ended up saving about $6, because GM did not have all the items and I needed and not had to place a second order. Any price differential between Squadron and GM is negated by the fact that you may not get the item. At least when I order from the Squadron site, it lets me know if the item is on hand, or it won't let you order it. Plus the order gets to me in less than half the time it does from GM (which is why I call them "Wait Models").

SprueBrothers all the way!!!!

Insanely quick shipping, and great customer service. Plus, everything they list is in-stock!

I have also used RollModels. Very nice, wide selection of items. Prices are very good on a lot of their stuff, too. Just expect to wait at least two weeks before your order even goes out the door.

Greatmodels has WAYYYYY better prices. I got the Squadron catalog recently and laughed when they had $2 discounts on $20 plus kits. Less than 10%. Greatmodels usually does at least 20-25%, and some sales can be as good as 40-50%.

I prefer evilbay, despite what the critics say. I just stick with the reliable sellers and usually get a kit for 50-75 off retail. Can't beat it, as long as it isn't a new release.

Great models have good prices but are WAYYYYY slow.

I use Spruebrothers.com and Squadron.com. Good prices from both places and fast turnaround. I like Spruebrothers best cause when you see it on their website they have it in stock. I use Ebay alot not had any problems and still wonder why its called evilbay? I must have sniped someone sometime so thats why they call it thatEvil [}:)]

I use greatmodels & Squadrons too. For asian manufacturers, I prefer luckymodels, especially when you plan to get a bunch of kits at the same time.

www.Luckymodel.com

That flanker is $108.08  shipping included and it is safer than evil-bay INMHO.  (No offense snarlyq, I just heard to much horror stories)

It is identified as "available" tough, that means they don't have it in stock but can have it from their distributor.  If you ask them by email, they can tell you how much time it could take.

No matter where you go ....... there you are.

I've used many of those listed

also

 http://www.greatmodels.com/

besides price you really need to consider shipping, some places have a flat rate others base it on weight. With a large order those with a flat rate can end up being much cheaper than one with "better" prices that base thier shipping on weight.

I can't believe I forgot Michigan Discount models (www.discountmodels.com). I've got some of the best deals there, sometimes even better than Ebay. Plus, I usually have my order within 2 business days because of our close proximity.

Truth be told, that is generally the first place I have looked when I recently purchased some kits.

Ebay and Squadron are the sites I use predominantly. If I see a great deal elsewhere, I'll consider going with a different site. More often than not, I'll still go back to those.

Whoever has the best prices!!

here are a few of the ones I use (there are many more)

1. Ebay (when I find a deal, shipping prices can be crazy)

2. www.internethobbies.com

3. www.megahobby.com

4. www.rollmodels.com

5. www.militaryhobbies.com

6. www.towerhobbies.com

Being that I mainly model modern jet aircraft, these sites work for me. I also try to support my local hobby shops when I can.
