SQUADRON US GATO SUBMARINE
Posted by grapeape on Saturday, February 3, 2007 3:55 PM
Got a question or two!  Even though it is brand new and there is a ooh-aah marketing affect for it, is the price($74.19 after discount) from Squadron a good one?  OR  Should I wait awhile?  Just don't want to pass-up on good deal if there is one to be had!  May be dumb question, but I asked it anyway.  That GATO looks mighty sweet!  Any info greatly appreciated.                                                                                   grapeape

Do you absolutely, positively gotta have it now?

If so,  the Squadron price is probably pretty good.   You may check some of the other online shops,  Great Models, Sprue Bros, etc.  and check price, shipping costs, and availability.

I'm planning on holding off for 6 - 9 months.  I have enough in the stash to keep my interest and I'll see if the kit ends up being discounted (such as the Revell U-Boat did at Hobby Lobby - where I got one for about 35 bucks).  Then the cost of the aftermarket items don't seem to hurt as bad.

The choice of now or later is entirely up to you.   This kit will likely remain in production and available for a long time.

Don't know if you've seen it or not, but the new Trumpeter 1/144 Gato is one sweet kit, and it only runs around $40, depending on your hobby shop of choice.  I saw the kit at our club meeting last Friday night, along with the new Italeri PT boat, and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one to put together.
